I've been loving Openweb GOLD for a while now. I say make use of the special.

I will put my vote on to MWEB.

Never had any problems with them. Openweb on the other hand left a sour taste in my mouth when my account started acting like a after hours account.

Lowest speed i've ever gotten during the day, with high usage one month was 70kbs not like 5kbs from openweb.

Mweb ftw!

Quicksilver, you have been recomending gold to every second person on the forum. Wonder if this is the reason http://www.openweb.co.za/affiliate.html.

Got the exact same problem with openweb. Switched over to Mweb a couple of months ago and I have to say. I'm very happy with the service.

i got the same experience with openweb before, daytime very slow even i changed from VB to Altech to IS. can someone tell me what's Mweb's policy for shapping, for example if you download 150g per month, you account will be shapped? are these DownStorm or Atraweb sites working fine? can i have a trial account for testing?

I would recommend OpenWeb to you...best internet experience ever :)

On a serious note, all ISP's are the same, they all throttle (eventually).

You forgot to exclude Openweb from that throttling claim. I've never experienced any throttling with them... ever.... and I've used their uncapped for.... 18 months now?
Amazing service to say the least.

OW Gold for the win.

The fact of the matter is.

Openweb was great in the begining, but after a few months it degenerated very quickly.

I just got tired of the same excuses.

There is a network fault.

Something wrong with telkom.

Let me reset your ports

Let me put you on another backbone.

Not one of those things worked. Always got throttled. YES throttled to 5kbs during the day on all ports, http, gaming, torrents doesnt matter. If it was shaped then at least I would want to see a download a speed of 50kbs not 5kbs. Thats a 95% speed drop. After a month of that I left and never looked back.

Weird.... I did in excess of 200 GB in November and >200 again in December with a 1Mb line.

Sitting on maximum speed now too.

Could be give and take.

But at a time there was not a week that I didnt email keoma regarding a problem or to chance my backbone.

With mweb I am yet to ask them for help regarding the speed im getting. Having good support is all fine and dandy but the greatest service is when you dont need customer service at all.

Good morning arj, have you decided whihc ISP is best for you. If not, I urge to test our trial product.

Problem with trial products is it doesn't venture into the AUP grey area. I am on Afrihost uncapped and it was brilliant initially and then i hit some sort of "cap" and now i'm throttled to 384kbps .... yet no one can clearly tell me when they do it , or even warn that i am hitting some sort of cap or anything (so i can plan my usage better) .

So i accept these AUPs is required and part of the package, but i would much rather go for a product that states up front -clearly- that they have "zones" or "speeds caps" or "restrictions" in place at certain points compared to one that says "we will shape you based on network congestion and your usage history" (i generally assume the network is always congested to a point where an AUP breacher will be throttled) .

I am still waiting for Afrihost to tell me what exactly they do, but my alternative is to try Mweb uncapped , but of course a trial account won't answer my question.

In the end it comes down to deciding to pay for 50GB cap (R500) and top-up the rest vs. uncapped (R500) and get stuck with dialup speeds at some random point during the month....if i knew that point i can make a better decision.
