Advice - which uncapped ADSL would u recommend

mweb does not throttle, they only shape based on network load, which seems to bit less with the network upgrade , so the 7 day trail will be the same performance as you would get with the product you will buy.

speeds stay the same, if it is end of month, middle of month etc.

The fact of the matter is.

Openweb was great in the begining, but after a few months it degenerated very quickly.

I just got tired of the same excuses.

There is a network fault.

Something wrong with telkom.

Let me reset your ports

Let me put you on another backbone.

Not one of those things worked. Always got throttled. YES throttled to 5kbs during the day on all ports, http, gaming, torrents doesnt matter. If it was shaped then at least I would want to see a download a speed of 50kbs not 5kbs. Thats a 95% speed drop. After a month of that I left and never looked back.

I'm afraid I have to report the same.

Was with them for ages. Speeds start OK, but slowly deteriorate. I reckon they nail the top end users (fair enough).

In that case, I'm trying the ISP shuffle: I'll stay until speeds drop off, then move on. In 6 months to a year, I could be back, at which point I'd likely see decent speeds again. Then they drop off, and I leave...

I've asked them about staying on and they just leave the account alone, but there was never any admission of any guilt or offer to leave me be... Either way, account degenerated to the point where I left.

I'm on the Telkom Uncapped Trial now- we'll see what happens when that ends...

Why would anybody buy a 4mb openbrowse account? Seems like a waste, 384 would be perfectly fine for browsing.

Uncapped 10mbps OW Gold is R700 more than with WebAfrica. I'll keep my Webafrica account, thanks. Have not had a days hassle with it.

Same here. Apparently my lat in WoW goes up a bit during office hours but it is nothing to cry about. As for downloads, I pushed my WA account a bit in Jan and it still worked perfectly.

Have to agree here. I've been using OW on and off for at least 4 years now and I must admit that the initial enjoyment I got from their 4MB products has dwindled down to the point where I this month decided to move to another ISP. Let me back up what I'm saying here...everyone raved about the DSL Heaven account performance so I decided, OK let's give this a try...3 days later I'm moved to IS, not too bad initially...then slowww during the day. You might say but that's normal because day time speeds is not the same as in the evening.

Problem is, on enquiry I was told that the DSL Heaven gold is not shaped or throttled during day time...except the IS account I was moved to for the remainder of January gave me max 15KB during the day.

I could have complained and asked to be moved (again ) but I just became sick and tired of having to move to another network...another network and when I phone the call centre it is always...let's reset your port...or nope the account is running full speed on our side. The only evidence I had was that I have a Telkom 3GB account which immediately maxed my line as soon as I connected?

I honestly don't know where the OW problems started, but I simply don't have the time to keep phoning or emailing them. If I pay R738 for a gold DSL account I expect it to work...the way it was intended to work

What's wrong or right with the Telkom trial?

I'm with AXXESS (http://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped the R496 per month option 4096 Kbps) on a 10Mb TELKOM line, and have no complaints. Sometime when I download a but much I get throttled back but never that much that it hurts me, last month for example was +-70Gb (quite month) and was still getting the speed I pay for (acctually get a bit more as Speedtest.NET reports +-6Mb d/l speed ;) )

Try Plugg - been using them for about 5 months now (I regularly do 300GB-400GB in total on a 1MB line @ 2 locations)
they offer 2 concurrent connections and I get my full line speed
Took the 4MB package

Good morning arj, have you decided whihc ISP is best for you. If not, I urge to test our trial product.
Hi MWEB Guy, does having an MWEB ADSL account still require all the faxed forms and ID documents or can one just sign up online and get an account like with any other ISP?

When I signed up with mweb last year I did it online. Had my username in minutes.

Thanks @Qwikslver - they still require documents (ID/utility bill), but you can just upload them via the online application. Signed up for my 7 day trial and viola all done and received an SMS with my login details.. but alas, epic fail on connection - no matter what site I try to go to I get pushed to this http://landingpages.mweb.co.za/Install/UnderConstruction.htm

Hi blunt,

This can't be right, I would like to look into this from our side. Please can you PM me the MWEB account details in order for me to investigate further.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

hi MWEB Guy - I tried again about 3 hours later and instead of the holding page it took me to the "Activate your trial" page where I had to accept the terms, after which the account became active. I assume it was someone working on that agreement page or something? Anyway, it's all working - Thanks for coming back to me :)
