Advice!!!!

Ok, so it is no secret that I have lost all my love for Vodacom over the last year and a half. I think they underestimate the level of intelligence of their subscribers, never offer anything that is not accompanied by ridiculous terms and conditions, you barely get any help when you need help on your account and they have messed up my account more times than I could remember. That together with ridiculous pricing and their illusions of some heavenly network just peeved me off.

So quite a while back, after 11 years, I decided to port to Cell C, come end of contract... Cell C had great prices and they, from what it would appear, listen to their subscribers, giving them a lot of flexibility, with some straight forward pricing and so on...

Now my mind was made up, but of late, everyone is warning me against Cell C... You'll never have signal was what came through over and over and over... now I am stuck between a rock and hard place... what do I do? I actually simply can't afford Vodacom anymore, plus they are just a bunch of idiots so I really REALLY don't want to give them anymore of my money.

I guess what I'm asking is... Is Cell C THAT bad? I haven't exactly had magical reception with Vodacom? Please can some CELL C SUBSCRIBERS give me their thoughts??
 
I am sitting with the exact same problem of not knowing what to do.
I am with MTN though, and their signal is terrible where I live and work. now I wonder if Cellc can really be worst than what I currently experiencing...
 
Cell C's signal really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Mostly just a perception from their initial launch. Voice and edge they run on vodacom so you're sorted there and they have so many 3G towers now it's not even funny.

I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Exactly. I have had numerous calls dropped on Vodacom and messages not coming through and so on. So at the moment from a network point of view, they seem to be only the lesser of two evils. The difference is that Cell C at least appears to have good deals and some flexibility, a funky image and customer focused in terms of deals. Both Vodacom and MTN have a very arrogant approach towards their customers, which is what I am tired of.

Look at us... looking for divine advice on internet forums, because that's pretty much what SA cellphone networks are like, definitely not from this realm.

Easy... just get yourself a pre-paid Cell C sim and test it out in the areas you are concerned about. That will give you a 100% accurate evaluation of their network in your areas and you don't need to commit more than R10.

Hi werfie,

We suggest that you should get yourself a cellc sim card and put our network to the test and take it from there.

I've been with cellc for the last 2 months now, never a dropped call or bad signal. Maybe it's just a JNB problem..

Be prepared for one surprise. That R10 will go a loooong way.
 
whatever you do, DO NOT sign a contract until you've tested on pre-paid. use it for a week or two at all times of day before deciding. data is dead every evening.

no, it will go a looooooooooooong way because you'll never be able to use it! you'll get a good signal but no throughput .... where I (and a lot of other people) live :-)

hahahaha. See this is the type of conflicting info I must deal with. It's a good Idea, I think I will get myself a prepaid card, and ask my family to only make use of that number for a week or two.
 
I ported from MTN to Cell C about 2 months ago, and I've had a Cell C data sim in my tablet for 4 months and so far so good. This weekend I had data issues, but suspect it might have been an issue with phone.
 
I would suggest - try them (Cell C & 8ta on R10 prepaid) both; I use both for Internet connectivity and really can't say which is better....
For my local calls...I use Telkom 3G Huawei & international, Skype.
