Hi All,

Seeing some scattered topics regarding Afrihost ADSL all over the show so thought I could create one that's a bit easier to find.

I am an Afrigamer subscriber and have been very happy with it for the last year or so. 190ms latency on EU servers was just magical. Then Afrihost moved over to MTN and latency has suffered. Don't think I've seen less than 250ms once. 60ms is a lot (as I'm sure most of you know) when it's frag or be fragged.

I understand they have some teething problems and some boundaries to overcome but it's been quite a while now and things aren't looking up.

I am seriously thinking of moving to another IS based ISP within the next month or so.

What are your thoughts on this matter?

Was going to ask, I just want decent latency to the EU servers I normally play on. MWEB any good for that?

OpenWeb offers IS backbone -among about 4/5 others (backbones). A number of folks, who have had it with afrihost, have moved over and have had only good things to say. Check out the OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread and ask there how they -the ex-afrihosters - find it.

I average (on a bad day) 250ms to Europe on MWEB. I play on EU West on LoL and a server in the Netherlands on WoW

GW2 latency is even less

WOW what a let down this company has turned out to be.

I was so excited when joining Afrihost the first time and actually recommended the site to a couple of people.

I think the truth of the reality is that we will not see any improvement in service from Afrihost and that this sub par internet performance will be with us for some time as Afriman himself said that they are inexperienced with managing their own network.

I am sorry but there is no but no excuse for providing top notch performance to your clients and then take it away all of a sudden and then tell us you are working on the problem.

OH I hope you guys give the poor admin guy on your Facebook page a good raise cause I have never seen someone saying " We are sorry" so many times.

What I want to understand from Afrihost is how do you let yourself go from a top notch ISP to this company who resembles a beat up orphan. How do you justify this sorry state of affairs to your shareholders. I bet you guys are making them a lot of money with your move if not then watch out for heads to start rolling in the near future because If iIwas a Shareholder I would be highly upset at losing customers at the rate you guys are if we can believe the rumors on the forums.

I wonder weather some amount of arrogance has crept in to your decision making paradigm and that you truly believe that "nah our customers love us they wont jump ship so lets just pull the plug that worked. We are the ISP of the year for 2 years so our poop don't stink. We'll just give them a new client zone for them to focus on so that they forget about our bad QoS"

Or maybe, just maybe Afrihost knew that there was going to be an exodus of power users but they somehow convinced their shareholders that they have enough subscribers to mitigate their losses?

I have to add to this.
It seems that Axxess has also slipped in the same way.

The down speeds of nntp and torrents have dropped drastically.
Have contacted them several times, and they eventually replied yesterday saying :
"As per your request I looked at your account and saw that your account is being managed. Meaning your p2p will be slowed down, but your emailing and browsing wil stil be normal. "

This is while I am averaging a total up and down of about ~60GB per month.

Guess I will also be moving somewhere else. MWEB or OpenWeb.

Move to openweb. I'm on Gold and it hasn't missed a beat. Can't remember ever having any issues at all to be honest.

I see a lot of negative posts here, and I can understand that some people feel that Afrihost has let them down. It's been a difficult time, but growing out of a familiar skin onto something bigger and unexplored is always something that requires a little faith. We have faith in ourselves and our partners, and looking back to what we've been experiencing since we moved networks, it's encouraging to me to see how many big strides we've made towards a stable network, and towards a fair use policy that's different to how other ISP's treat their clients.

Yes, we are shaping torrents and P2P. And that's all. Otherwise any real time service can still run at full speed. When we were with IS we used to throttle users, limit all throughput, and on the IS uncapped accounts this would be to the point that even email and basic browsing were no longer possible. We want to move away from that, especially bearing mind that once we move to to higher bandwidth speeds, browsing and streaming are going to be more in demand than ever.

Yes, we are saying we're sorry a lot - and we sincerely are. The majority of our clients are getting a good stable service, with priority on what they need which is real time. If you think we're sinking fast, it's simply not true. Cancellations are well within normal limits, and new signups continue to grow daily. Afrihost is not going anywhere, and that can only mean that things are going to get better, faster and cheaper as we continue our mission to change internet service provision in SA.

Anyone is welcome to PM me (at any time) and I'm happy to answer questions, or look into any issues you are having. :)

Move to OpenWeb, I experience latency of 10-40ms on local servers, and 190-230ms on EU servers.

Would you order and pay BMW monthly for an M3 but get delivered a 320i instead ?..Prob not!!! Cause that's what AfriHost is doing and just saying sorry.. we are working on it :). No compensation for the consumer at all!!! Have a gander and Hellopeter..Shocking to say the least!

On the other had im glad to say Plugg is awesome, Just like AfriHost before the MTN switch..

Stop listening about false promises from Afrihost.. do the right thing and move, i moved over to Openweb 2 weeks ago since then i am smiling all the way and enjoying 160 - 180ms again on EU servers and downloading is even better than what i had on Afrihost.

Afrihost was good before.. i tell you that but since the new MTN move it's horrible and it won't get better ( Latency Wise ) so for any gamer i do not recommend Afrihost anymore.

because they have gone to **** just like the rest of the country, as a South African now living in London i cant help but feel sorry for you guys, i get 10mb connection without cap for pocket change, and you guys pay out your a$$ for pathetic connections, my friend in South Africa over skype are forever complaining about connections dropping, being shaped on everything, easily capped, and paying so much for it..

less chance of being murdered and raped here, i guess that makes the price worth it....

I feel pretty safe where I am right now.

The sun is also shining, i guess that makes the price of being raped worth it...
