Hi All,

<RANT>

I've been a member on this forum since 2012. It's sad that my very first thread on this forum has to be about poor service from my favorite ISP. I've been with Afrihost for I don't know how long (2 to 3 yrs). I pay them over R800 a month for 10mb capped ADSL bundle and 5GB mobile data. That's hard earned cash that I'm throwing away at the moment. Afrihost has been unable to deliver a line speed above 1mbps since the 19th of September.

I don't normally complain online but for pete's sake one thing i can't stand is internetlessness. Are there any other Afrihost customers here suffering from the same thing? The response on my support ticket from Afrihost is:

We had a slow access issue which has been resolved, however,
some accounts still seem to be having difficulty stabilizing at their right profiles.

Please bear with us as we try to resolve this issue.

We have refreshed the connection and recreated the ports,
please reboot leaving the router off for a minute or so and advise.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

I only reported this issue yesterday for the first time to Afrihost because I use their Network Status page. I thought maybe my issue was related to the "iOS" debacle. I only realised yesterday for the first time that this had been resolved on the 23rd. Silly me for not checking earlier.

I like how basically this message tells me nothing other than to reboot my router and that the problem is resolved, but not actually because I should bear with them while they try to resolve this issue.

WTF, that's great corporate spin.

Thanks MTN for ruining a perfectly good ISP. Thanks Gian for selling Afrihost to MTN. (If you can't see I'm being sarcastic then please note I am being sarcastic.)

</RANT>

I realize that there might be another thread regarding this issue on myBB, if anyone can point me in that direction I would appreciate it.

Regards,
WillBen

That makes for disappointing reading. At least my line is fixed now. Telkom had to do something at the exchange.

I'm really sorry to hear that you had such a poor experience here. I'm sorry I only picked up on this thread after the fact, but I hope that everything has been fully resolved.

Please PM me if not, or otherwise to chat about some of the issues you have raised here :(

And still you don't know in which forum posts about ISPs belong? Hint: it's not here but ADSL ISP Discussions. Not too hard to make out the difference between ADSL and ADSL ISP or is it?

Lol, yeah I guess I don't care.

Afrihost keeps blaming Telkom exchanges for congestion, but I'm gonna stand up for Telkom and say there is no congestion.. the problem without a doubt lies with their MTN network. Any traceroute will show you that.

is everybody on afrihost trying to finish their capped account

Yes, only ever got throttled today on capped account. Makes sense as everyone is raping their line for last GBs.

Ask Telkom to do a port reset. It often help if there were ISP related issues that were addressed it seems.

Yup Afrihost still sucks balls. No 22 in the call queue, can't test my line on their clientzone, can't speak to a live agent. No Internet, no joy. Glad I'm leaving at the end of the month. So who is the best now? I can't believe that they won ISP of the year. I must be in the minority...

Yeah, in the same boat. Can anyone offer a recommendation for 10mb capped?
+1! AS it currently stands - unless I find a suitable replacement. I am canning my ADSL. I can't keep pissing R1300 at Afrihost for masepa!

We are always willing to improve and assist wherever possible. If no-one is getting back to you (I assume you have also emailed us or sent a Call Back Request) then please let me know and I'll get on that ASAP.

Sorry to hear that you feel this way. We have had a fair share of technical difficulties this month but we're expecting a full national network upgrade (the East region is already complete). Once this has happened, we expect better performance across the board.

I am also getting extremely poor speeds on Afrihost DSL.

Local speed test on a 8mb line to Afrihost (speedtest.net) gives 6mb. Very similar speeds to other local servers too.
Any speed test to any international server gives me less than 1mb.

Using a tool like testmy.net consistently gives me less than 0.5mb.

So it cannot be my line quality or exchange congestion otherwise I would expect all local tests to be poor. Its just international thats rubbish.
