Okay here's a confusing one...I had to get a new router and now my AfriHost details don't work?

I had a Billion and it was working hundreds and now I have a TP-LINK and I'm getting Authentication Failed. When I put other ISP details in it works with no issues, just having a problem with AfriHost. Is there something I need to change specifically for AfriHost?

Strange, can you put the router in bridge mode and dial the pppoe connection from your desktop, if you still get auth failure then it is a Afrihost prob.

I have TP-Link W8970 and no problems.

Is it possible that you mucked up the username or password? Maybe you added a space at the end, or messed up one character. Check it again, just to be sure.

I have the W8960N...and I tried many times. Even copy - paste while it had my other working details in it. No way it can go wrong there

I know that many of our clients use TP-Link routers and I don't think we're ever reported an issue before with a specific router or model.

Can you double check your settings? Also, drop me a PM with your username so I can check if we are receiving an authentication request on our side :(

Yes - the router :D.

No seriously, I had a Belkin once - same issue. The Telkom guy plugged in the shirty old Telkom N150 - no issues, Belkin just would not work ... Took it back and got a Netgear .. problem solved.

Sorry for the thread bump but I'm sitting with the exact same issue here as the OP.
My TP-Link W8980 and Afrihost just won't play nice. Adding other isp details (in my case with telkom) it works perfectly.
No issues whatsoever with my other two routers.

have you got "special" characters in your password ? Could be the cause.

I have the W8970 and I often jump between ISP accounts, due to poor performance on my uncapped account.

What I have found is that take it takes up to 3 times for my Afrhost accounts to authenticate.
The same if I connect from the desktop.
I had the same "problem" with my Billion as well.
Other accounts like Telkom, Web Africa or Incredible Connection connects first time.

Maybe just try it a couple of times.

No, no special chars. It just won't authenticate. I've tried it a bunch of times as well.
Otherwise the router works like a champ. Setup my chromecast with netflix, and a bunch of other stuff. No problemo. But ask it to work with Afrihost and it steadfastly refuses. :p

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/608916-Synced-but-no-internet May be applicable to you too...

Get Telkom to change sync speeds (temporarily) or reset the port. Seems to help most of the times. Not sure why it's happening, but it does happen from time to time.
