So I have a 1 gig account with them, I wanted to cancel it, because I opened another account(3gb), so I used the option in the interface, that did not work.
I then ask Moshe via email to cancel it as per suggestion on this forum by him.

I get a reply saying NO they will not cancel the account until I pay more.
I have paid my R29 for September.
I have paid my R29 for October.
And I will pay the R29 for November(my one month of cancellation).

They have some excuse about bandwidth moved that is NOT allocated to my username. Which quite frankly I don't care about cause its not my username and not my problemm, bought 1 gig , used 1 gig, got capped, did not top up. Sounds like a cock up on their side.

Now according to the Afrihost website.

"The R29 per GB is applicable 24 hours a day and there is no specific time limitation as to when you can use it. You can use it at any time of the day or night and it will cost you the same."

"Here is an example of how it works:

You buy the 3 GB package for R87 per month.

You will pay us the R87 for the 3 GB's included in your package as long as you are with us - no matter when the special offer ends.

While we are running the special if in any given month you use more than your 3 GB's then you can top up and get extra GB's of traffic at R29 per GB."

"Do I have to sign a contract to get Afrihost ADSL?
Afrihost offers a month to month service, no contracts - no strings attached."

Well Afrihost, I have paid for my 1 gig, I have used my 1 gig, according to your usage I'm at 100% cap.
I am finished with this account and I want you to cancel it... no strings attached.
As you say on your website.
As you advertise to the public.

Although it should not be a factor do you know if you did go substantially over this 1gig account. Reading between the lines it seems they are implying that you went over the 1 gig cap by more than 1 gig in September or October.

Even if this is true it should not matter as one would think the overuse is due to the systems not working properly.

was very important for me to not be tied in to any contracts. So keen to see the outcome here.

I had exactly the same setup - a 1 Gig account which I canceled - after buying a 3 Gig account.

I had no problems at all.

They have now cancelled the 1 gig :)
I shall log on when I get home and check!

Why did you cancel the 1GB account and then open another 3GB account?

Do you know you could just have upgraded to 3GB?

Hahaha, they DID not cancel and now they say

Hi bboy,
Hope you are well.:]

Kindly advise that you have used above the bandwidth allocated to you and are liable
to make payment for the 19.336 GB used.
Please make arrangements with our accounts department,by mailing them at [email protected]
with proof of payment and they will cancel your account once this is done.
Thank you very much and have a great evening.

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Darryl

Another email of there's says

This user has moved 19.336 GB that is not allocated to this username.
The earliest was: 2009-09-25 14:10:28
The latest was: 2009-10-07 18:26:51

If its not allocated to my username the wtf does it have to do with me.

Why did you cancel the 1GB account and then open another 3GB account?

Do you know you could just have upgraded to 3GB?

Well i bought the 1 gig to test, it worked fine so was gonna give it to my dad but then after i bought a 3 gig for myself i decided to keep my telkom account for the local and then just let my dad use that one gig.

Oi. I'm thinking maybe I should cancel my Afrihost account... I don't want unallocated bandwidth to stop me from doing whatever I want when I'd like to cancel.

why, because one person got everything in a confusion ? we are hearing only one side of the story, it can easily be a between the keyboard and chair error for all we know without any feed back from afrihost's side which i suppose if they give if they actually knew about the thread. i'll pm the 2 here that is active on afrihost's behalve and see what happens.

Well for one, being told several times by several people that he can't cancel his account because bandwidth was used that wasn't allocated to his username...

I don't want to sit around waiting for that little peach when I want to cancel my Afrihost account.

"Oh sorry, you can't, you owe us R13509834839822.22 for used bandwidth that was never allocated to your username"

How is that MY problem.... so... I'd rather get out now while I still can and don't owe them money for bandwidth their system said I used but was never reflected on my account and according to the TOS they should have prevented by capping me.

*jumps ship*

I purchased 3 accounts from AfriHost.

1GB, 2GB and 2GB.

Two of those accounts I never exceeded the limits on. ONE of the 2GB accounts I DID EXCEED the limit on my leaving steam open. I understand that the connection was reset when "capping" occurred however the system still allowed me access to the account.

Now.. I believe this was probably in the region of 11GB or so?

I have cancelled the other TWO accounts via their control panel on the internet however the 2GB which is in a capped state has NOT cancelled. I contacted Gian about this a while ago and he notified me this was due to the capping system error problem that their radius server was going through at the start of this promotion. As far as I gather from his response everything should be in order and my accounts should be cancelled end of this month.

As I understand then my 11GB that was pushed through even though my account was in capped state is not my responsibility. My 1GB account capped perfectly. It showed me the AfriHost capped page when I tried to login. One of the 2GB accounts as mentioned above with the ~11GB Steam mistake.. did not.

So.. am I liable for the traffic pushed through that account by steam? As I understood the service cuts off after the pre-purchased amount was used.

I havent read the OP/thread. But isnt there a 1 month notice before canceling?

If this applies then good, if not, then i ignore my comment.

I was fine with the one month notice.
