Afrihost are lying.

So you guys want to basically rape the line, go a few gigs over cap, and then force the ISP to not charge you while I'm pretty sure they will be charged by their upstream provider? Nice... Then you wonder why the industry has to protect themselves/screw the consumer so many times.

The fact that you want to leave Afrihost charging half the price of other ISP's signifies that your intention is to get more than double out of the account than what you paid for because otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

They just want to get capped correctly and on time to avoid the inconvenience the following month.

What worse case scenario are you trying to avoid which is severe enough to warrant walking away from the massive savings you are enjoying by making use of their extraordinarily cheap gigs?

In saying that, they must fix the problem if they can. I just think you may need to give them some time.

Whats that old saying? Give a man enough rope and he'll hang himself...

I don't want to, a year from now when I might want to cancel, have to hear, "Sorry, there are 4599 unallocated gigs to your account you need to pay us for first before you can cancel"

Savings now. Blood money later? No thanks.

Our friend here paid for 1 gig bandwidth, they're telling him almost 20 gig has been used. Let's do some math SESAME STREET STYLE!!!

R29 x 1 = R29 you saved R41 for the 1 gig purchased (If you draw a median that R70/gig is standard)

Now he wants to cancel. BUT WAIT... WHAT JUST HAPPENED COOKIE MONSTER??!

R29 x 20 = R580 !!!?

Now let's take that super duper cheap savings that we got for going with Afrihost!

R41 - R580 = -R539

Yes boys and girls. We just had to pay R539 to cancel an account we would have saved R41 for 1 measly gig!

That is no reason to save a couple of bucks, because you lose out on so much more.

And guess what? You only learn of this when you want to cancel. Not on your "My Connectivity" page.

If Gian and the team were really serious in fixing this error they would've already. It's been a few months now since their special launched.

No. They're busy counting their money instead of "fixing" this. And when users do want to cancel, drums up the excuse that "Sorry, you've used 500mb more (or in this case 20 gig more) than the cap you purchased, you'd need to pay that first"

Huh??? I thought they were in control of the capping? And like I mentioned in the 12 hour reset thread as well when Gian responded with "We need to do that to get the data from the radius servers in order to cap effectively" is BULLCRAP... people have been able to cap efficiently WITHOUT the need for a reset for ages now...

But no. You're saving some money so it's okay I guess. Wait till you cancel your account one day and get the shock of a lifetime. "No sorry you can't because you over used a couple of hundred gigs"

Check how fast those savings go down the drain then.

Na-ah, not me pappie. I'll rather get out now while I owe them ****all

negligence lies on both ends as you as the costumer shouldn't be leaving "steams" open and the isp should cap at assigned bandwidth. i would however find it more believable going by the lets rape the bandwidth attitudes that most display that it is more of lets go rape it and see if it caps and if it caps i'll go on with life but if it doesn't and i've managed to pull more than i should well stay silent if nothing happens but go **** storm if i get billed for my actions...

well then we await the response and that will be judged.

They just want to get capped correctly and on time to avoid the inconvenience the following month.

Necuno, please note what jak3 said. He purchased 1gb, now, I would "rape" the 1gb if I wanted to test, but seriously? The client in your eyes should not be leaving stuff open? Why not?

We've been more than happy with several other providers including Telkom to just let our machines sit online all night and so what if my steam got left open? I have more important things to do than to worry to control my internet account that I pay the ISP to do seeing as they're the ones imposing the caps?

Or are you saying they're charging such a low price that we shouldn't expect them to cap us at the right times and we need to watch our internet throughput like hawks because WE are responsible?

No thank you.

Hey All

No need to panic. There was a glitch at the end of last month where bandwidth was only being soft capped! (Doh!) However we have taken full responsibility for this. From now on we going to be hard capping (the way it should have been done all along.)

So just message me on [email protected] and I will ensure that you are not left paying hectic bills.

Sorry for the perception that we are lying. I will speak to the relevant guys in support to allow this to go through.

If any problems at any stage. You guys know where to get a hold of me!

Gian.

Yes I am saying that you should be responsible for what you use. Only someone really trying to prove a point would by mistake over use 20GB when he knew he only purchased a 1GB account. The "inconvenience" argument here is complete BS.

As for the issue with the stuff unallocated to the username, I don't know the story and no-one else on this thread knows what the story is so why not wait for a response/fix. No-one has actually paid R500+ yet as far as I can tell.

Edit: Ok, don't have to wait then I guess, see the post above this one. See, all sorted now go find something else to complain about. Go complain about companies like telkom/iburst/eskom/citypower/etc where you won't actually see any useful response/fix.

Another reason to go with Afrihost, they assume responsibility for their own mistakes. Good ppl!

Lol, that's a good point. You don't need a usage tracker to tell you you've exceeded your cap by 19GB:D

Oh and another point: the unallocated bandwidth just means: bandwidth that you have overused for your account. In future months, if you go over by 20Mb it goes into your next month bandwidth. However it should never be so dire as a whole GB, unless you are trying to bypass the system. Remember we only get stats from Telkom every hour and alot can happen in a hour.

We are not trying to screw anyone over. However these are the limitations we have and we are still trying to get top notch service at the lowest possible price.

Hope this explains all.

Cheers.

Gian, this was certainly a bold move from you and I'm sure you've shown that you're a step-ahead of other ISPs in a sense that you're trying to be the 'change' that our Broadband industry needs.

Keep up the great offers and the great service!

Couple of points.

1.Im not trying to ditch afrihost, i've purchased a 3 gig and cancelled my 1 gig because I need more bandwidth.

2. The only time and place I've ever heard of this 20 gig over allocation is now when i tried to cancel the 1 gig, not in my client zone, not via sms, everything was peachy before, this figure has still not been explained to me , where it comes from, what "bandwidth moved that is not allocated to this username " means exactly.

3. As i've said in the other afrihost thread(bout 20 days ago) i do find it perfectly fair that if you go over, its subtracted from the next month, however they should make this clear to users anyway.

4. On a 4096 line, I would of had to have raped it for 11.1 hours straight at full speed to get 20 gigs, not something that would happen by mistake, if any of my pc's would of done that i would of noticed. I don't torrent, I don't have steam, I don't have any bandwidth chewing services on my machine because they screw with my pings when I play fps online which is my primary use of my pc. I dowload all my series/movies from saix news server and even on a HEAVY month i don't get to 20gb on that. My 10 gig WA trial account STILL has bandwitdh left.

I was pissed of when I started this thread, just after receiving my first reply from Moshe saying I cannot cancel, 10 minutes later he replied to me saying he will cancel, I was going to come back here and delete the thread casue all was sorted, but it turned out it wasn't. I'm used to having south african companies screw you, Cell C are still taking my money every other month for a contract that ended over a year ago, I'm consistently fight with Vodacom about THEM spamming me, I'm fighting with Nokia/Vodacom about them selling a phone advertised with X features and when you get your handset you find its a dumbed down version with physical missing internal chips. So when i get an email saying I cannot cancel my "no strings" contract I am going to make some noise.

O_O following this thread I was a little worried about Afrihost (considering trying it out). Funny how a mistake on their side makes them look better than almost all other ISP's so far :p ... What a world we live in...

Heh, you guys should never come remotely close to any of the MTN/Vodacom/Neotel offerings, you'll be part of the headline "user ramps up R40,000 internet bill" .

None of the wireless operators offers any kind of proper capping system and as someone mentioned, setting your alarm for 3am to make sure you turn your connection off is not as uncommon as you'd think ;).

In fact none of the wireless operators can even tell your usage [on contracts] within 48 hours of the time you used data.

well this stupid thing is still appearing in my client zone

How about some of you guys who are making mountains out of molehills give Gian and co a little bit of a flippin break here? All these kneejerk reactions and ridiculous thread names are pathetic!

They have gone more than the extra mile to bring you the cheapest bandwith around (by a long way) and some of you are moaning about a technical glitch? FFS, there really is no pleasing some people.

Totally in agreement here. Some people get their panties in a twist way too easily.

bugger that, ive had a reply from darryl, moshe, zayne
i've sent an email to Gian.
And still so far i've had nobody explain this 20 gig to me, where the figure comes from, and still now answer on if my account is cancelled.
