Maybe.... but the current performance on P2P certainly confirms the statement. As I mentioned earlier today, torrents were at full speed till exactly 10:30. Then there was a steady decline and degradation of performance until 12:30. At exactly this time, until NOW, I can't get more than 3kB/s on an extremely well seeded torrent. I have been downloading at full speed on NNTP since this.

Proof is in performance... ALL multi-threaded downloads on my side give me full, or close to full speed - ALL except for torrents/P2P. As a test, I decided to change my port to a lower value in uTorrent, and, what do you know... speed jumped immediately to half of my line speed. Change back to original port, and limited to 3kB/s again.

Care to explain that? As many of us have mentioned before, when you optimise/prioritise ANY protocol, this is the pure definition of shaping. If only one protocol on an AH account is slow, and full speed on another ISP (same line), THIS IS SHAPING/THROTTLING. Just because you don't call it that, or openly admit that that is your policy, doesn't mean the term is inaccurate.

EDIT: Upload speeds on torrents run at full speed.

Is that for real? They are seriously trying to ween Business Uncapped users over to capped accounts?

If you go back a few months, many of us saw this coming.... it first started with the Home Uncapped. Users were being pushed onto Capped and Business. Now people are being told to move over to Capped.

The thing I can't understand is that the performance on Capped is just as shocking all over the country. We would have to be complete idiots to change to a Capped solution from AH. Furthermore, did anyone notice that the client was told to move over to a more expensive Capped solution????? This is exactly what happened with Home Uncapped. How many times have we been told that Capped and Business are out of the same data pool, even though we have proved on many occasions that the data is routed very differently on the MTN network?

...I see a serious trend here... and if this is the way companies in South Africa do business, then we are all in for a really rough ride. It seems that instead of us moving forward, and joining the rest of the world, we are moving back into the stone ages... all the while being made to feel like we are being unreasonable for wanting the service we have paid for :(

Presents a lovely business opportunity. We can make an ISP for tech minded people.

Get the right people right from this forum.

P2P dead, NNTP dead, money has been debited from my account and I'm not getting the service I paid for, what would the CPA say about this? I am basically paying to be able to browse the internet. EPIC FAIL.

That's what Crystal Web is trying to do... not very easy to compete against the big companies. We also have to wait and see what happens when Vox and MWEB Business are sold - things could get quite nasty :(

Problem is they were selling the business accounts at a loss from the start. The capacity issues have finally caught up with them.

This is a good thing.

Don't how no one else saw how cheap AH's business accounts were compared to the competition.

Mweb's and Web Africa's equivalent accounts are triple the price.

All of a sudden, speed up to 250kB/s... but erratic as hell - bouncing all over the place :(
No shaping, huh???? Funny how exactly on the hour, some speed comes back.

EDIT: and now back down to 20kB/s

Raid party of 6...4 people constantly dropping. What do they have in common? All AH clients. Other two are on Mweb and WA. What your own employee says about gaming being effected is spot bloody on with regards to gaming performance. But hey, we're the ones getting dropped and kicked on AH accounts while any other ISP works perfectly fine so what do we know.

Yea right. Pull the other one.

Funny thing is - if you just openly state that there is (insert whatever you like to call shaping effect here) occurring then everyone here would understand it!

Like someone else said, Crystal web is doing this. The problem is AH has warped the perception of what data should cost. Everyone now suffers as they try to match AH pricing while AH was running the accounts at a loss.

Evening guys

Truly, I know you aren't happy with the way things are performing at the moment. We can only sincerely apologise and look for a solution together.
I promise you, we're on your side here and want to see things go back to normal ASAP!

When I get any feedback around when and how that's happening - I'll have it posted here.
Have a good one!

The uncapped unshaped yes.

The 4mb premium is a 400gb account basically. Once you hit 400gb average over 30 days you will get throttled. So usage dependant that is a great account. Though they also limit p2p during the day based on my experienced, the mweb thread and my mates as well.

Afripeople ... looks like you had a hard day at the office ... I suggest you guys have a cold one (milkshake of course).

I'm sorry AfriGuy but how is the information from your Technical department saying that our business accounts are being shaped incorrect information? You stated in an earlier post that AH is "degrading" p2p traffic on business uncapped accounts.

What's the difference between "degrading" and "shaping" your business accounts? Your logic seems very flawed and everyone can see that.

We are having serious issues with MySQL connectivity again. For most of last week we had to resort to using 3G modems to get anything done, but the issue seemed to resolve itself from Friday.

But starting at midday today again, MySQL connectivity over Business Uncapped and standard Capped deteriorated. Either this is some misguided, ham-fisted attempt at shaping, sorry de-optimizing, certain protocols, or there is a serious networking issue that seems to be causing MySQL packets larger than a certain threshold to drop.

It has taken me the whole day to get 5% of what I am normally able to download in 1.5 hours.
Watch... "magically" at 22:30 exactly tonight, P2P speeds will return to 60%, and then at exactly 23:30 it will be at full speed. This after getting 3kB/s since 12:30 today :wtf:

AfriGuy, just chatted to my management. They would like to know if this problem affects all AH accounts, i.e. business uncapped unshaped and capped unshaped. Reason, they suggest I consider moving to capped unshaped until the issue is resolved. Is this a viable option? We currently use 100 - 150GB a month. They don't want to start a new relationship with a new provider if the issue is going to be resolved soon.

The capped "unshaped" accounts are most definitely being shaped at the moment and have been for some weeks.

Looks like we'll have to fork out for capped accounts from Axxess or any of the other ISPs to be able to get some gaming done. Destiny is still unplayable on Afrihost and ping in Diablo 3 is extremely high (with constant spikes of 2000+ms).

On the free GB from Axxess Destiny works fine and D3 has the lowest ping I've had yet, 220ms, and seems to be stable - constantly in the green, not the yellow, red, red, brief green, yellow, another timezone pings from AH.
