Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

There's a strategy at work here... think AH are trying to rid themselves of some heavy P2P users/abusers on their business grade ADSL. The pricing between normal(shaped) and business(unshaped) is just too small... someone looking to dl torrents all day would obviously go for an unshaped business account. These heavy P2P users will get irritated and leave... especially if AH aren't willing to give "fix" date!

IMHO...

Interesting theory, but if that were the case, they would take the Axxess route and change the FUP and shape P2P and NNTP. I cant think of a single business that would need to use these protocols legally.

Not at all.
All services will return to normal soon.

AfriMan, what exactly is the intervention that is required to get things back to normal?

Does AH require more IPC capacity, or does AH require more bandwidth from your upstream providers?

I post what our network teams tells me, I pass on the info that I get.

Do you, the person behind the AfriGuy mantle, truly believe that there's currently no shaping on AH business uncapped accounts?

Oh - and whilst I am busy educating AH on the ins and outs of network management, congestion, and shaping...

You have an ABSURD amount of fragmentation on your network... Somewhere there are MTUs that aren't correct.

If you don't know the terms, just fscking google it. That is what it looks like your "engineers" are doing anyways by running your network... Googling excuses and trying to make it stick without even knowing what they are "claiming"...

I'm sure the explanations to the terms are pretty cool, but I also know that our network guys know everything there is to know about 'em.

I don't have a data at this stage, sorry.

Guys,

I know many of you are unhappy, and I totally understand this. I think we all know the network is not giving us exactly what we'd like, but I don't see that going into all out war here is working to anyone's benefit. We've heard what many of you have to say, and I think we've tried to answer as best we can with the information we have. At some point, we started going around in circles and we're probably not far from getting the thread locked by one of the admins.

Just to repeat, whatever is being done or considered by our technical team, we're simply reporting what we have confirmed. We're not the guys pushing the buttons, so whatever the situation, we're here to relay information to you and report feedback. That's how we can continue to improve your experience and find solutions with the resources that we have. If you want to simply make it impossible for us to engage with you and call that a victory, that would be very sad indeed. If we can try to get back to the reason we have the forums, to discuss and share information so that we can work together on the best possible solutions, I think there is still a lot we can achieve.

We know that performance is not as good as it has been in the past and I think we have to accept that solutions to improve your immediate experience with our current resources may not be ideal in all situations. We're doing our very best to give each client the best possible experience. I know our team are working on more long term solutions and when we can confirm that and give commitments, we'll absolutely share that. We're here to work with you and share whatever information we can.

So please let's try to keep this forum to actual feedback, questions and engagement. If you guys would like to create another thread, you are most welcome to do that, but right now it's making it very hard for us to engage with clients who we can help.

Please feel free to PM if you'd like to discuss your unhappiness and we'll do our best to find solutions together so we can move forward as best we can.

I can't think of a more **** YOU response than this.

He is pointing out that in his experience there are issues. Reporting it doesn't help and he gets bull**** answers with fancy words that have nothing to do with the problem at hand.

With all due respect, go back and read the question. I didn't ask for a date. I asked what intervention is required to get your business accounts back to normal. I've got to give my management feedback, and they not going to like this type of response.

It's a simple question.

Just to add, his complaint is perfectly valid. Ran an ICSI Netalyzer.

The network path does not reply when it needs to fragment traffic

Path MTU (?): Warning –
The path between your network and our system supports an MTU of at least 1500 bytes, and the path between our system and your network has an MTU of 1492 bytes. The path MTU bottleneck that fails to properly report the ICMP "too big" is between 41.181.180.11 and 41.181.178.21. The path between our system and your network does not appear to report properly when the sender needs to fragment traffic.

We are keeping this forum to actual feedback (very heavy "optimisation" on our accounts), asking questions (what's up with the heavy "optimisation" on our accounts?) and engaging with you Afripeeps but AH's responses aren't satisfactory, because in my opinion AH isn't being entirely honest about what's going on. Just double-speak and lip service.

I think that you and several others have made it clear you don't want to accept the feedback, and that is understandable considering that you are not happy with the products performance. But we really can't debate the same points in this kind of cyclical way. So if you want to keep talking, we can engage on PM.

Because it is BLATANT LIES!!!!! Network Congestion is NOT the reason why some protocols are fast, and others are slow.

Tell the truth!

EDIT: Not even protocols - certain ports are fast, and other ports are slow... Irrelevant of protocol.

As I said, we're just going around in circles here. Let's leave the thread open for stuff we can work on. Please PM me, and let's figure out what you'd like to do next.

Lol, so pay full price for a "shaped" service, and stfu?

Give me refunds for the MONTHS of bad service, and I will stfu...

Agreed.
I will carry on moaning (not that any of the answers given by AH are satisfactory), until I get what I pay for.
I am paying for a 10MB ADSL line (running at 6MB due to distance from exchange), and I demand to get what Afrihost guarantees me ie. "full line speed at all times".

Contention my ass, stop shaping/throttling Business accounts.

Your guarantee as advetised on your website means sweet blowall anymore. We are paying a premium price for Business accounts, yet getting less than half the "guaranteed" service, yet AH refuses to refund us or give us discounts on this issue.

As I said, I don't think that is getting us anywhere and if the thread becomes cyclical, the admins will lock the thread. PM me and we can discuss further.

It's not what *I* should be doing... It's what *you* should be doing. i.e. telling the truth about what is going on, and fixing it, quickly. Giving your customers compensation for your fsck ups...

We've heard all this BS from you before, "management" was discussing discounts the last time too apparently according to you, when you had the IPC issues... Guess what - empty fscking promises - nothing came of it. What a surprise...

AH is in my books, officially a bunch of liars!

I have already sent you a PM and just like the AH norm, I must kick and scream to get a response....
