Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

I think we've discussed what's happening on the network ad nauseum already.
To summarise:

Downloads may be degraded due to contention.
This is not a permanent experience.
We are constantly running tweaks/ changes to get the best overall experience for all of our clients.

I'll update this thread with further feedback as soon as it's available.
Sorry guys, I can't keep replying to posts asking the same questions :(

You are right this is a waste of time to discuss the matter . Me and all my clients canceled our accounts . If in the coming week Afrihost will start preforming we will cancel the cancellation if not bye bye .

Take it from a CCNA as well as CCNP... This *IS* how congestion works. -everything- will deteriorate under congestion.

If you really want to become technical... Whether it's a HTTP download, or a youtube video, the packets will still be broken up to 1500 bytes. It doesn't matter WHAT data is in the packet, a packet, is a packet, and ANY packet will get dropped when there is congestion. Anything you download that is bigger than 1500 bytes, will, and can, potentially be dropped under congestion.

You are shaping - the HTTP download test done over multiple ports as posted by a previous user proves this beyond doubt, seeing that you CANT argue with it, you simply just pull up your shoulders and all of a sudden claim you are no expert?

If you're no expert, then please don't come and try to explain how congestion works. You obviously don't know how that works either.

YOU ARE SHAPING. Finish and klaar. I think we should all be lodging complaints at the ASA and ISPA right about now...

Schooled!!!! :P

Just make future debit orders / EFT payments to afrihost prioritised.

No... you have told us stuff you want us to believe is happening with your network.
You have said the same sorry sorry soon, but nothing definite.
You rebrand symptoms of Afrihost failure, rephrase terms to define the problem as a workable interim solution that is beneficial only to Afrihost, not those affected clients.
There is zero official commitment in any form other than Medium Impact homepage status notices.

There is a huuuuge disconnect between your social media team, Afrihost support, Afrihost network technicians, MTN network technicians and your clients.

I cover this in earlier posts, it's something that's being looked into internally.

This thread is going back and forth with the same questions ans answers. Its clear something is "up" with the network with downloads and non-realtime services. It is now pointless.

... unless there is a cash reward for the first person that can get an Afri-Rep to use the word shaping, then I want in on the action :P

LOL, it appears so, I think it was Savage's post that put the nail in the coffin :P

I've never claimed to have a genius IT mind :p Not going to start arguing with someone about network in's and outs simply because I know I'm not qualified enough to do so.

I am glad you are feeling nauseous about it already, because that is how we are feeling about stating the damn obvious with you guys just denying it? But anyways, I will leave it be. What do I know about networks and such voodoo trickery..

I know you guys aren't happy about it, we've made that so clear.
We aren't happy about it either, believe me.

Was just joking man, it's all in good fun, but seriously remove the shaping from my account :P

Then how can you so vehemently claim that there's no shaping when it's been shown to walk like a duck and quack like a duck? More so when even Afrihost employees have also said it's a duck?

There's a strategy at work here... think AH are trying to rid themselves of some heavy P2P users/abusers on their business grade ADSL. The pricing between normal(shaped) and business(unshaped) is just too small... someone looking to dl torrents all day would obviously go for an unshaped business account. These heavy P2P users will get irritated and leave... especially if AH aren't willing to give "fix" date!

IMHO...

LOL, thanks man, needed a good laugh today...

I post what our network teams tells me, I pass on the info that I get.

Not at all.
All services will return to normal soon.

I think you are spot on....

Oh - and whilst I am busy educating AH on the ins and outs of network management, congestion, and shaping...

You have an ABSURD amount of fragmentation on your network... Somewhere there are MTUs that aren't correct.

If you don't know the terms, just fscking google it. That is what it looks like your "engineers" are doing anyways by running your network... Googling excuses and trying to make it stick without even knowing what they are "claiming"...

Ok so how do we fix this? Can you please get your CTO or CIO or whoever is the ultimate network guru at AH to give you a statement which actually is a technical statement so that we can understand what "network optimisation" means and how its possible to have different services performing at very different speeds without the introduction of any form of priority/shaping being introduced. Some of us are technical people who are more frustrated with this situation because the explanations being given are nonsense even in the face of evidence to the contrary. You simply cannot experience tcp/udp "service contention" on a per tcp service basis unless something is interfering with the traffic (ie. traffic shaping).
