Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

I am not talking about torrents. I am talking about a website running on 3 different ports having different speeds when accessed on those different ports.

Again, I can't comment on intricate technical details. Sorry.

If this new practice of "Network optimization" has been implemented based on congestion on your Business accounts. Which I presume is a new practice because I've never had it before today. Doesn't calling it a Business account become a bit redundant?

I mean if Uncapped accounts are "semi shaped" and Business Uncapped account are "optimized" what are we paying Afrihost more for? What's next....Are Capped accounts also go to be "optimized"?

Capped accounts already are being "optimized". Go check out the AH CAPPED thread.

Why don't afrihost simply throttle the home uncapped users?? Nobody cares about them anyway. And they should be used to crap internet anyway.

Haha. Too late. Been throttled/shaped from 07:00 till 22:00 at 12.5% / 6% on http / p2p for the last 2 months already. Only at 22:00 does it become dynamic. The shaping is now forced for those 18 hours.

Indeed.

I have Capped accounts.

"Prioritized" and "monitored" to a third of the line speed when not "contended" otherwise lucky to get about 1Mbps on a 6Mbps line.

ALL other ISP accounts are fine... just the AH Capped are ****ing rubbish.

Are you on home uncapped?

Anyway, what I was talking about is throttling 24 hours a day to 1% of speeds. I mean so what? its how things are done in the ADSL ISP world anyway. For good measure Full Payment is still expected though. :D

Aaaha... you mean full-on OpenWeb mode !

I have been experiencing disconnection from Battle net server on a regular basis.
I have ask in the passed about this.
Now i read on myBB forum about problems you are having.

This could be the cause why i get disconnected on a regular basis. Not via BattleNet but through Afrihost.

No lessons learned from the passed.

And yet you still don't answer the question...

Let me rephrase. FORGET TORRENTS for the purpose of this question.

1) I have set up an ordinary httpd service which listens on 3 different TCP ports (80 which is standard, 10000 which is an aribtary number and 40000)
2) The service is a basic apache httpd which hosts a single file.
3) If I access the service (one at a time) via http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/thefile.zip or http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/thefile.zip or http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:40000/thefile.zip the resulting downloads are at different speeds.

How is it that all three single thread downloads run at different speeds and the higher ports seem to have inferior performance?

Ok, try with a 1GB Free account from AH and a free account from WebAfrica as a comparison?

This is not intricate as it proves that AH is shaping different ports on a business uncapped account! If I do the same test on another ISP the download speed is very similar. What you fail to understand is that if your network is CONTENDED, CONGESTED or OVERSUBSCRIBED you would see degradation across ALL services. The only way to "manage" this is to introduce prioritisation/shaping which no matter how you look at it is not what everyone here signed up for. The problem is that instead of all tcp services experiencing the same level of degradation evenly it results in different services being given priority based on what AH thinks is a priority.

I wonder if using a VPN will bypass this "optimising" nonsense. AH can't do anything about it if you're bypassing their shaping policies on an unshaped account!

There shouldn't be a reason for the disconnects.
If this was chatted about previously could you PM me some reference IDs?

I also have capped accounts with AH. There's definitely been "the-thing-we're-not-allowed-to-call-SHAPING" going on for weeks now. When I use my Web Africa test account, everything is irie.

Same boat here, although my http traffic is full speed 24/7. I wish Afrihost would find a solution to the congestion issue without "throttling/shaping" the cr@p out of the business account users p2p and nzb traffic. I'm also finding youtube is buffering more & more :(

Nothing is changing permanently on these accounts. Please refer to my previous posts around why downloads may be slow.

Thanx for info but your website Network Status page show no mention of this "Optimization;Shaping;degrading" issue on p2p traffic on Business accounts. And you have done quite well of not admitting that it is an issue or a problem but instead a new protocol put in place buy Afrihost.

So please confirm if this is in fact a deliberate action by Afrihost or a Technical Issue?
