again, unfortunately, this is where a form of LLU, would be MOST helpful, and loooong overdue.... but alas
It's really not as simple as that. Firstly, it's not a static thing like a stock level, where you can have a re-order at X amount of units. Capacity is a fluid commodity. While we might see a peak at 5-6pm, just for example, there may be a huge slump in activity between say midnight and 6pm. Ordering more capacity for the peak will incur massive costs and in essence incur losses for the slump period, where bandwidth is not used. Remember that IPC has fixed costs for the capacity, whether used or not. So we have to really make difficult choices about whether to try to extend resources without incurring more costs so we can potentially drop prices for our clients or offer more value in other ways like subsidising bundles, etc.

Trying to keep my head, and wait a bit... when the line works, it is by far the best account I have used in 8 years. I would just like some stability, and would appreciate NOT being treated like a 2 year old - I am 40, with 15 years in IT/Network Admin/etc. I don't talk down to my clients, or suppliers, and in return, I would appreciate the same courtesy - be a professional, dammit!!!!
There is a possibility that Telkom may roll out fibre in my area in the near future... maybe I need to make more money, open an office in a fibre area, and then not worry about these issues again
Personally, the most annoying thing in this saga is they way Afrihost is treating it's clients . I am in business for 35 years and mistakes happned . The question is how do you handle them .

Maybe so, but PEAK is what Business accounts are used for. So by your theory, our accounts should never be included in ANY of your "optimising" policies. Remember, this is AH's "guarantee" on the account... this is the same as an SLA

Here I don't think this is a mistake here this is a business strategy .
35 years is definitely an achievement, so respect to you
We've only been in business for 14 years, and I think we still have a lot to learn. I think we have a unique approach and while we sometimes make mistakes, we try to create a personal relationship with our clients that goes beyond product performance or pricing. We've always been as transparent and honest as possible and while some may not like the answers, which is understandable, I do believe they realise that we're being upfront with them and stay with us in the long term.

A business model or strategy that creates unhappy experiences will never be a sustainable one and it's not how we operate. If anything we put a lot more back into our client relationships than many other companies would be happy with or understand. The fact that we're still in business is a testament to the level that clients appreciate our honest and our investment in them, just as much as we sincerely appreciate their faith, trust and support in getting us where we are today.

I have to disagree with you. This strategy is definitely sustainable especially in the ISP business. As all ISPs it seems are crap. So there isn't really an alternative. Added to that the complacency (and misguided loyalty) of many of your clients, and its full-proof, maximum profit strategy. Actually damn smart.
And we the "network noobs" are right once again... Thanks for confirming what we have been telling you all the damn time.. Now just to get you guys to admit we are right about the "optimizing" as well..
It's definitely not how we do business and not a strategy. I think it's a mistake to assume that any of our clients are misguided or misinformed.

Never said they were misinformed. Many are very well informed. To the point of telling you (afrihost) what the problem is, and then waiting a month for you to confirm they were right all long after you (afrihost) trying to blame every other thing possible except your own business's incompetence.
I don't expect you to admit anything on the open forum as that is naïve. But we all know whats going on here. hint-hint.
And best part, is that the ADSL users in this country are a fickle bunch. So those that left because they were being screwed over, will happily go back when things return to normal.

We've always working with clients to determine what is happening. When we've seen that demand is high and we've been contending we've said so openly.
I'm sorry that you feel this amounts to incompetence, but we've always played open cards with our clients, especially here on MyBB.

You give the illusion of playing open cards. Unfortunately many of your clients see right through it as many went to school and got an education. But fortunately Afrihost still wins all the way due to reasons mentioned in earlier posts.
Not trying to pick a fight with you. Just saying it like it is. I know you have a job to do and need to protect that job. So no hard feelings man. I think you are actually a good company REP! Much better than others who claim to be reps and only answer certain queries when they feel the need. You however are try to save face for the company in every thread not shying away from any query. I applaud you for that. Really I do.

When you have contention on your network, it's already a sign that you're WAY to late with capacity upgrades....
Surely, you have graphs, you look at those graphs, and you are able to see a TREND of bandwidth usage going upwards? When that general upwards trend reaches about 60% or 70% of capacity, then it's time to order your upgrades already.
It's flippen networking 101. Thank god that you only run your own network, and not that of corporates and other large entities.

I have faith in our clients. I think I've had the privilege to interact with a great many of our clients, I'm probably close to a few thousand interactions, and I believe that they do have faith in us and trust where we come from. Of course, it's true that some have been disappointed along the way and I've always tried to help them as best I can. I'm also really happy to say that a great many of those clients that I've seen move away have always come back because they prefer dealing with us despite technical issue and they feel that we're a company they cam trust.
