Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

After having a few days of decent speed, it has dropped down to 3MB.
Still usable but not what I am paying for. Seems I was happy for mothing....

If this carries on like it did last month, I am cancelling.

As I said, this is contention, not shaping. Shaping would mean that we are deliberately deprioritizing certain protocol, as we do with Uncapped accounts. This is not the case, but where there is very high demand, we do our best to provide the best overall experience.

I know some people want to get into a technical word war around this kind of thing, and we've been through this when we first introduced QoS several years ago, but at the end of the day optimising the network for best performance when demand is high is what we are doing.

Frankly I couldn't care less. Just stop "optimizing" my line...

Then please explain why AH guarantees that Business account users will always have 100% line speed and yet you are clearly not living up to that guarantee

Why are we paying a premium price for a product that is clearly not working as it should be?

Don't even try dude.... They are not shaping, they are optimizing...

Demand is something that will always be present, and we're working towards managing that demand so that the product delivers the experience we expect. In general things have improved a great deal already, and we still have other short term solutions that will be implemented to continually improve on this.

The usual reply and not answering my question.....

Again: Why are we paying the usual full price for a premium service which is not delivering?

Cut all our bills in half as we are not getting what we pay for. Not rocket science. AH science, yes, but a far cry from rocketry.

Do you think they actually really, really, truly believe their PR[SUP](TM)[/SUP] waffle[SUP](R)[/SUP] and spin[SUP](C)[/SUP]?

I think they have been threatened by management to not mention anything regarding "shaping" on the business thread in fear of a backlash from the business community.. So optimization it is..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_shaping
Traffic shaping is often used in combination with:Differentiated services, Integrated services — including traffic classification and prioritization.
Weighted round robin (WRR) scheduling
Random early detection (RED) queueing, Weighted RED (WRED) and RED In/Out (RIO) — Lessens the possibility of port queue buffer tail drops and this lowers the likelihood of TCP global synchronization.
A number of port queue buffers.
VLAN tagging IEEE 802.1q
Bottom line shaping optimization the same thing . Please don't insult your clients' intelligence.
Thats reminding me Gian trying the same tricks some years ago and then running away from the forum with his tail beteen his legs :)

Just super duper funny only my p2p and http downloads get "optimized" (shaped) and nothing else. But hey, some say potato. Who am I to say

I do believe we're delivering a good service to many clients and many will be experiencing what they expect from their accounts. In terms of halving bills or refunds, I don't think that is something we're considering at the present moment.

If we read up on Wikipedia on how to manage our network, I'm sure this would be a lot easier. The reality this is specialised network management, that requires top people from our team, MTN and several outside companies. I'd leave it to them to use the words they think are most accurate.

Just a word on personal remarks about Gian - I don't think he's won the awards, accolades and respect he has for being anything short of a visionary, amazing leader and a generally awesome guy. He's always done his best to contribute here on the forums, even though he is the CEO of a multi-million rand enterprise. I think that's something pretty unique today.

We can only tell you the information we have. Whether you choose to see hidden meanings or layers of conspiracy within that is totally up to you. We're really trying to give each user a good experience, and that's well within the confines of the product's features.

You don't have to worry about that . Alot of people which I know and their clients would not be your client next month and due to your attitude will never come back .

No hidden conspiracies, I have just noticed a tendency with AH lately to deny, deny, deny and then to only on 99 admit that we were all right all along. I will take you back to last year when the "IOS Update" (funny we are back here again) was released and all of us said it is a capacity issue. You and AfriGuy denied this and said that you can assure us that you have sufficient capacity. What happened in the end. I think you can fill in the rest of my story..... You know what happened in the end. So that is where I will leave it, just stating that my past experience on this forum has taught me a lot about forum reps

Excuse me?

Afrihost GUARANTEES that Business account holders will never be shaped/throttled and will always have 100% line speed, yet when we don't even get a 3rd of the line speeds we pay for, you do not want to give us refunds or discounts?

What a f-*** joke.

We're always sad to lose clients, and I'm sorry if you and they are having a poor experience.

At the end of the day it's about the trust between us as a provider and the client. If you honestly don't believe that we're doing our best for our clients and hiding behind lies and conspiracy, I really do hope that we can at least convince you that this is not the case.

Whatever the outcome we only wish the best for our clients, and I do sincerely wish you the best.

Contention is not throttling or shaping. We do our best to provide the best possible throughput, latency and experience, but we network demand is essentially not something we can completely control, except to manage it as best we can.

As you mentioned here, when it was confirmed that this was the case, we were completely transparent about capacity. We didn't see the kind of improvement after the previous iOS release that we have already seen. Remember that this was also very close to Telkom's rollout of 2, 4 and 10Mbps upgrades, which also had a major impact on the network.

Our aim is to share the confirmed information we have at the time. Sure, someone may have a theory that could turn out to be true, we also see many examples here on the forums of theories that turn out to be false. At the end of the day, when we have confirmed information, we share it with you guys as openly as we can.

EDIT: Never mind, not in the mood for issues. Just please fix it..
