Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

AfriGuy/Afrihost, this is now getting ridiculous. It is 10.20pm on a Friday evening and the speeds are abysmal - I am also under half speed (between 2-3.5M) on a 10M Bus account.
Now, I have been very patient these last few weeks, but I am at the point of getting really pissed off.
AfriGuy/Afrihost, please sort your rubbish out, and pronto, otherwise I will also be leaving you.

We are generally seeing full throughput, or very close to normal, on pretty much all accounts, depends on which region and what their demand is like at any given time.

Could you send me the test results which showed this to you?
 
Well...where they both use to get full line speed, they are only getting 250kB odd from about a week ago - when they noticed it anyway. When they switch to Mweb Premium uncapped or WebAfrica Business uncapped they get line speed again from the same sources.

So...yeah. The servers did not change...so something on your side did as it used to run flat out. Make of that what you will.

It is possible that some changes we've made may have had some unexpected side effect. Since Business is not shaped, it's unlikely that this introduced a shaping policy that we are not aware of.

We can definitely investigate though to confirm.
 
Clearly Afrihost have no issues losing clients - after a week of emails up and down to their support people - everytime including a test between my Telkom dialup and AH dialup that shows AH is at least 50% slower - My last mail back from AH was the nail in the coffin,

"It is a sad day indeed to lose you as a client... bla bla bla Good luck for the future and we wish you all the best"

Where to now !! Axxess, Webafrica, or back to Telkom...

It's always an issue to lose a client, and we do whatever is possible to avoid this. However, clients are also entitled to make their decision and we need to respect that. We don't want to have a Comcast situation where we make it impossible for anyone to leave. We actually try to make it as easy as possible for a client to cancel, if they wish, so that even in parting ways we offer the best possible experience.

well as from Friday night 11 pm my line has been pulling full rate, but still it shaped to damn during the week and until late at night
may as well go with the afterhours uncapped.
same **** they limited to 128k during the day...no different to afrihost business i suppose LOL!!!!

There definitely shouldn't be anything like shaping on a Business account, but if demand and contention remain high it will affect your overall experience. We're trying our best to make sure that effect is limited to give you a decent experience.
 
Guys tell me this one thing - Business uncapped 2 meg, at what speed if everything is working fine, should torrents run? The highest I have reached is 120kB/s. Is this good, average or bad?


you supposed to be getting around 180-200 KB/s, your download should at least average 180KB/s and definitely not 120KB/s...

Whaaaaaat???Heng i'm not even close. Okay give me some advice please. I have to run some diagnostics and try to find out where my bottleneck is. Any recommendations where I can start?

Torrents should definitely run because Business is not shaped. However, depending on demand, you could be affected by contention. Torrents are also not a great way to measure throughput, becuase it depends on a few factors like the seeders upload speed, etc.
 
So just an update on my side things being slowing down again...

still having some timing out issues with some sites etc.:mad:
so i reckon let me try AH capped 40 gig Account..
Guess what.. flawless.. you tube loads fast , FTP full speed HTTP bliss etc etc this is pure internet JOY...LOL!:erm::erm:

So change back to my business 10 meg account and guess What.... back to everybody doing IOS updates.. bwhahahaha
pathetic, I think AH must just be transparent with their clients and stop Bull**** them about IOS and IPC Capacity...
you clearly are throttling these account!!!!!
All started good but the more people get onto the service the more they cripple it and throttle the Business accounts.
I don't think this mater will ever get resolved either, they will keep blaming other problems, so it best if you want to download find another alternative or go find a better ISP who can provide a better service

Business and Capped use the same business rules, so we're definitely not favouring Capped over Business. We can always test to see why the experience is different, it's possible that something could be corrupted or not performing as it should. It's more likely that this is an the account itself, generally my reports show good performance :(
 
Lol. Slooow speeds on certain protocols. Implement 'measures'... full speed on those protocols again.

We're not shaping any protocols. We're trying to make sure that priority services perform better during contention, but otherwise we're not changing shaping policies at all.
 
Why does the supersport web site take so long too load, this is the only site that will sit for 5mins and then eventually open?

Realtime streaming should not be affected. If other streaming services are working normally, we might need to check with DsTV/Optinet to see if all is well.
 
So i purchased a 20GB pre-paid bundle from Axxess (to try them out) luckily my ADSL is Line is still with Telkom so it makes it fairly easy for me to jump around at this time,

I have done a speedtest this morning with both Afrihost and Axxess dialups and surprise-surprise

Router Sync:
Upstream 635900
Downstream 8191900

Afrihost : 6.73Mbps
Axxess : 6.83Mbps

Seems mostly similar. If I read your stats correctly, this is on an 8Mbps line sync. Speeds are not amazing, but probably still OK considering the demand on the network at the moment.

I am not talking about Streaming, this is just opening the web site, its got extremely slow, and it only seems to be this site. Streaming for the most part is ok, but still not idea.

Afrihost's continual soon this will improve, is really not helping, as there has been ZERO improvement.
 
NNTP downloading at +/- 200Kbps on a 10Mbps account, this is not on....

If you can't open the site but other sites are fine, we'd need to see a traceroute and where issues could be happening.

If the issue is not on our side, then it probably would not improve until we identify it and escalate it :(

It depends on what is happening on the NNTP server, but we definitely aren't shaping news traffic. If there is high demand, then some services may suffer during peak demand.
