We're generally very understanding when clients approach us in earnest with problems with their accounts and we usually give the client the benefit of the doubt. I've helped several clients with issues like this here on the forums, so I think it's fair to say we return client's trust and good faith wherever we can.
That is not what I asked. I asked if a client feels like he is only getting 1/10th of the service he was guaranteed and what is advertised in big banners on the website, could that client only pay 1/10th of the invoice? Let me answer that for you. NO. Why? Because it is a business transaction and the trusting relationship you like to mention only works one way in what you are describing.
You are a business and offer a service. The client pays for that service in full. You are not friends with clients where a relationship is based on trust blah blah. If you want it to develop into that after years of doing good BUSINESS then fine. But first and foremost you are a business. When you cannot deliver the service being charged for, an ethical business would first and foremost inform all its clients. Not just those on internet forums or those who complain to the helpdesk. Secondly, as a business, you know you cannot offer the service for which you are charging. So charge for the service that you are currently offering.
That is the ethical and right thing to do. Not what you and the other reps are currently doing.
