Wait a minute...so you think "real business users" should somehow be less affected? Just curious. Not picking a fight.

The product is branded 'Our Awesome Business DSL Packages'... say no more! So sorry if I somehow misinterpretted the name!

Well I'm able to stream 480p, 720p has to buffer often. That's acceptable for 4meg for me

My own tests seem to show that full HD likes around 6-8Mbps to stream best. You can sometimes get a good 720p experience on 4Mbps depending on the codec/compression used.

Let's try lift the mood a little...

A big mining company recently hired several cannibals. "You are all part of our team now", said the HR manager during the welcoming briefing. "You get all the usual benefits and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat, but please don't eat any of the other employees"...
The cannibals promised they would not.
Four weeks later their boss remarked, "You're all working very hard, and I'm satisfied with you. However, one of our Admin girls has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?"
The cannibals all shook their heads indicating "no".
After the boss had left, the leader of the cannibals said to the
others, "Which one of you idiots ate the Admin chick?"
A hand rose hesitantly, to which the leader of the cannibals
continued, "You fool!!!!! For four weeks we've been eating Managers and Supervisors and no one noticed anything, but noooooo, you had to go and eat someone who actually works!!!!"

:D

Granted, but your average torrent downloader and a business owner pay the same premium. So I do not see ANY reason to discriminate against one over the other no matter what the name of the product. Agree?

It kills me to agree with you ;)

We don't want to discriminate between users of the same product. If you're a business user, then we want you to have the business experience.

My takeaway from this thread is starting to resemble very much what Mweb did. I think Afrihost should be honest about by when their network is scheduled to stabilise and what actually is done about it.

As a business customer I have yet to receive a formal communication from Afrihost.

It is not professional and fair to expect business customers to tolerate reduced services and demanding to charge for services which can not be delivered.

As a business customer I would want to make a decision if I can sustain degraded services for a period of time or if I should just move on.

Right now there is no parity and it is becoming intolerable.

Interactions here on the forum are made in an official capacity, so we have given the information that can be confirmed officially from the company. I think the fact that our services are month to month always puts the clients in charge, and if anything our systems are designed to give clients full and final control.

I think it's also important to note that it is increased demand from existing clients (not massive influx of new clients) is creating contention and we are prepared to commit considerable financial resources to improving the network without asking for additional investment or fees. I think that shows our commitment to giving our client's a better experience and trying to do whatever is in our power to give our clients the long end of the stick.

Generally I can stream 720p on 4meg - as the bitrate is around 2-3mbps. 480p is around half that, so I'm probably getting realistic speeds of around 2meg assuming other things are happening in the background

1. You say its existing clients and not new clients being signed up causing the problems. But you still happily sign up new clients right? Stating nowhere in the sign up process what they are in for until you fix the problem? And If it was existing clients causing the issues, then your planning is worse than what I thought.

2. You say you are pumping in money to make the network better at no additional cost to clients. You want a cookie for this? Last time I checked, that is expected from you as a business. You are not doing anybody favours. Your clients are paying FULL price.

Can't wait for the end of the month, sick of the sub par performance of this business account. Getting less than 2m speeds on my 10m line and not getting an eta of exactly when this is going to be fixed.

Is it possible that Afrihost wanted so many client in order to get better price from MTN ? But now they got stuck . One important thing there are no angels here this is all business.

I think this is a can of worms Mweb opened with their uncapped accounts, users were so limited, we jump at the opportunity to not be limited, Mweb felt the strain, enforced various policies, other ISPs had to react to Mweb or lose clients. They had no time to really understand what uncapped would do, how this would affect profits, but had to react. We now land up in this situation, the ISP's cannot offer the products they are selling. How you can run out of capacity and not really plan a head is mindboggling, and blaming an operating system update as a reason for the slow down was really shameful.

I think it's very easy to sit back an criticise but the fact that we're doing business for this long and still have the trust of many of our clients I think says a lot about how we do business and the fact that our clients trust that while we may not always get it 100% right, we always try our best and do right by them in the end.

If you don't feel the same, you are totally entitled to your opinion. If you're offering cookies, I'll take gluten-free preferably ;)

Again, I think there is a very blurred line here between speculation and fact, and I think it's not really adding value to the forum.

There is no Illuminati/Masonic conspiracy. It's as we've said, demand rose faster than we'd anticipated on our ongoing capacity planning, and we've fast tracked those plans. MTN are also more interested in how we do business than our number of clients (though I'm sure it's a factor). It's the way we deal with clients, our approach to self-management (like our ClientZone) and the way we drive our sector of the broadband market as innovators and agitators.

Like the Ruling party vs. official opposition party, yes you are making it very easy to sit back and criticise. :D

The facts are the facts, I think trying to find levels of meaning where there are none is just going to get us all nowhere. How increases is demand relate to iOS releases is odd, but I think by several people's admission makes sense because it also happened in a similar fashion last year. Last year also overlapped with line upgrades from Telkom, so I think it was reasonable for us to see if trends would differ and usage would abate, which it did to some extent but not back to where it was before the release. And in terms of reaction, we've seen changes made in short term that have made a huge difference, and we'll see an upgrade happen much faster than before thanks to other plans we've made well ahead of time to help us be more reactive.

Again, I think it's easy to simply criticise from an individual perspective, but from the background seeing the amount of work and effort coming from us and MTN (and the expertise and skills being brought to bear), and the speed with which decisions are being pushed through, I believe our team are really getting better at this and will continue to improve as we learn.

terms being thrown around very loosely. Can't make this **** up :D

Well because things are left hanging we make assumptions. We are always told about how much is being done, this and that, but we still do not see any improvement. The same thing happened last time there was an ipc issue for the south region, the "upgrades" came and there was little improvement, and shortly afterwards were are right back where we were before.

Its nice to pat your own back, and I would love to do the same, and I will give credit where its due, but we are not seeing the results of all this hard work.
