I would start here if I were you. Latency is pretty high on your second hop, which has nothing to do with AH I might add.

Ok .. thanks.

I think I am going to use WebAfrica for the rest of the month, and see how it goes with them... where AH Business has issues, WebAfrica is fine... Twitch is just one example, it works on WA even with high ping, and has buffered on medium on Afrihost for the last month except for a 2 hour burst today.

I have 5 accounts, and the only 2 having issues are the Afrihost accounts.

So the first address after the router is not the exchange then?

I've tested with two accounts. The IP address on the second hop "belongs" to the ISP account you're currently using.

I'm sure this has been asked countless times, but hope someone can help.

I'm on 4Mbps Home uncapped and the shaping is driving me crazy.

As the 2Mbps Business account is the same price, can I just move to it in the CZ without incurring additional charges and then change to 4 Mbps Home uncapped when it is a proper service again?

If above mentioned is allowed, are there a limit on how many times this can be done?

I asked this question and the answer I was given is - yes, you can change at will. The issue you WILL encounter, is that unfortunately billing is a bit of a fox up.

Yip... their system doesn't take into account the amount you have already paid. That is, you will automatically get an invoice (billed) pro-rata for the remainder of the month. You will then have to fight for them to reverse the additional charges.

Here is my experience with changing packages. Started the month with 10MB Home Uncapped and PAID R897-00.... service has been lousy, so I thought I would try out the 4MB Business Uncapped @ R797-00. This service was even worse, so after 2 days I decided to go back to my original BUNDLE which was paid for in full. ClientZone isn't working, so I spoke to support on the phone, and they assured me that I wouldn't incur any extra costs. After a mess by support staff, and 3 days later, this was corrected. Unfortunately, the day before, I received 2 invoices. The one was for the "upgrade" of line from 4MB to 10MB, and the second was a pro-rata amount till the end of the month for 10MB Home Uncapped.

I have sent an email telling AH that this is not what was discussed and promised. I have not received a response in 2 days, nor have the invoices been reversed/cancelled yet. I hope they do this before the next month's full invoice for 10MB Home Uncapped is invoiced, otherwise they will take all invoices off via debit order, and I will have another fight and wait on my hands

Quite ridiculous.... this last month has had more drama with AH than I have had in the last 6 years with ANY of my previous ISP's (MWEB, OpenWeb, Axxess, Telkom). Of the lot, sorry to say it, but MWEB was probably the best all-round.... at least I could get hold of them easily.

You said Business Uncapped had no shaping. Your Client-Zone says "No Shaping Applied".
The fact that yesterday I could only download half of what I did on Friday, along with the fact that I'm currently downloading at 12kb/s on a 1mb Afrihost Business uncapped account determined that was a lie.

I've been a loyal Afrihost supporter, convincing all my friends on colleagues to go with Afrihost. In the last 6 months, I've tried 1mb uncapped, 1mb business uncapped, 4mb uncapped, 2mb uncapped and now 1mb business uncapped again. I've been dissappointed with every single one of those packages.

I do download substantially, but 99% of all that downloading is from Afrihost's own news server. I never download during peak times. And on top of it all, I call BS on Afrihost throttling rules. 25% throttling on a 4mb line does not in any way equal 12kbps downloads.

P.S. "Real-Time services" like web browsing and youtube are most definitely affected, at the moment. For me anyway.
