Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Status

Then Network status should not have a green light.
And Business users should be compensated/credited for the inconvenience since we are paying for a so called premium service.

Like that's going to happen.

I went ahead and cancelled my 4mb business uncapped and requested my money back. I only had the package for 2 weeks then all went sour..

Speeds crap again, but we continue to pay a premium. Really this needs to stop! I find it amazing how capped users get gifts, ie 100% extra bandwidth and business users get nothing but poor speeds.

I am sure AH is going to give their BUSINESS UNCAPPED (unshaped) customers a 50% discount for the next month or two! as a good will gesture

Hey, doesn't hurt post GOOD suggestions.... :D

I think a few months at 50% off would be more o a good gesture considering the quality of service over the last few months. But I doubt it will happen.

Yeah... I have a NEW support guy (now the 8th, along with an ADSL "specialist") responding to my ticket, asking me at what times my speed is decreasing - WTF?????

My response was, ".... what difference does it make, the fact is the ticket has been open the whole month!"

In addition, do they know the difference between the uncapped accounts??? Doesn't seem like it... and by the way AH, here is the fine print off your own website regarding your Uncapped Business Accounts:

The Small Print
*Please Note: Business DSL accounts are Guaranteed to be completely unshaped at all times. Business clients may, however, make use of Protocol Prioritisation to ensure that their DSL performance is not negatively affected by Peer-2-Peer traffic. This feature can be activated or deactivated at any time in ClientZone.

Stop asking silly questions and making ill-informed, stupid statements! This above says it all " .... Guaranteed to be completely unshaped at all times."

Ah, but herein lies Afrihost's genius in wording. It never commits the Business Uncapped accounts to be unthrottled. We just assume that because normal uncapped is shaped, not throttled...

True, but in other places on their site and in the AUP, it DOES say that they do not throttle, they only "manage" (which they claim means "shaping").

I have put it them on numerous occasions that when you shape at the same rate for the whole day, that equates to RATE-LIMITING, which IS THROTTLING.
As you can imagine, I have never had a response in this regard... they just re-assign my ticket to someone else 2 days later, and I have to start from the beginning again (tests, traces, etc.). One month later, and now it's because the exchange is congested.... but it's not on Telkom's side, it's actually on the MTN ESR Router as it gets onto Afrihost's (MTN's) network. My issue is not that there isn't enough IPC, it's that they keep signing up new clients, giving away free bandwidth, and not looking after the existing clients who are paying a premium for a less than poor service :(

What I found quite strange with all the tests I did (with different ISP's), is that even though the Telkom account had a much higher latency, it was faster and more responsive than ANY of the other accounts.

I think a few months at 50% off would be more o a good gesture considering the quality of service over the last few months. But I doubt it will happen.

If that happens I might keep the service... But their lack of feedback and delivery is poor.

I wonder how many other AH users are complaining besides the people in this thread..

AH should start getting worried. Unless they are planning on getting new members for capped products which they can manage better and then they just ignore the few business users who decide to cancel.

AH should start getting worried. Unless they are planning on getting new members for capped products which they can manage better and then they just ignore the few business users who decide to cancel.

They make thier money from capped accounts, and users that do not use their cap, we are more a liablity as they have no idea how much we will download.

I just wish the simple things would work, ie watching Supersport online, DSTV ondemand, it never works. Log onto My WebAfrica test account, and guess what, everything works. I am sick of the continual excuses and the total lack of support, were are the reps, never around, they have staff issues, so get more people, it been like this for far too long.

Hmmmm....

But AH maintains that there is no problem.
They cannot replicate the latencies and rubbish speed I have experienced this month.
Their network is just bursting with Afri-awesomeness and it golly-gee just must be a problem with the exchange.

There have been mentions of IPC issues here down south, but no official acknowledgement yet here in this business thread.
Just requests for trace routes and diagnostics again and again and again.

Yet, all these issues vanish as soon as another ISP is punched into the modem / router.
These issues disappear for as long as another ISP account is active.
Switch back to this account, and, golly-gee whizz no-way, the exchange has just gotta be borked again.

Lately it is all over the place, half-line speed, high pings, time outs and suddenly it runs-along all hunky dory until its next epileptic fit.

If I leave it convulsing and switch ISPs... zero issues again.

If that happens I might keep the service... But their lack of feedback and delivery is poor.

I wonder how many other AH users are complaining besides the people in this thread..

....but remember, it must be our line, or modem, or the exchange :p

Exchange seems to be fine for other ISP's..... "Wake up AH techs, this proves the problems IS on your network. In fact, ALL the issues on the traces point to erratic behaviour on the AH/MTN ESR AFTER the exchange!"

.... JUST ADMIT IT, SO WE CAN MOVE ON... Stop trying to screw with the people who probably know how to analyse these stats BETTER than most of your Reps/Techs.

.... just saying :p

Urgh ... been through these hoops with iBurst, then Cybersmart and most recently with OpenWeb.

I was commenting just the other day that is appears to be a 3 and a half year cycle with me... before things fall apart and I move on. 3.5 years with iBurst and then again with Cybersmart as is the case with OpenWeb. I spent about 6 months "troubleshooting" with iBurst, 6 months with Cybersmart and 3 months with OpenWeb before calling it a day and moving on.

I was hoping for, at the very least, the same with this Afrihost Business account... at least 3 years but nay, it appears to be 2 months. 1 month of bliss and the other of hoop-jumpig.

Oh well... round-and-round the mulberry bush once again I shall go.

I won't admit this in person, but I've even seriously considered moving to Telkom. I've heard they're not as efficient as the other ISP's at enforcing their throttling / shaping...

Heheheheheh ...

Anyhow, I think I have had it with uncapped.
I think my next move will be a plain old 100GB-160GB capped account.
Screw uncapped. Not worth all the tracerts and schizophrenics.
Shaped or unshaped, down south here uncapped sucks lately.
