Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hey guys,

I've been on a 10mb Business Uncapped account since Friday, and I must say I am baffled by all the negative feedback these accounts have been getting lately. My account seems to be performing beautifully, and I'd like to share some results. I've just tested the following (1pm / office hours) :-

1) YouTube is maintaining 1080p perfectly (I know that's not usually a problem, but I'm testing it anyway)

2) Netflix is maintaining a steady 720p, (strong "3000" bitrate on Silverlight / Chrome)

3) twitch.tv streamed on high for +10 minutes without interruption

4) Diablo 3 (EU) latency is +-250ms / WoW (EU) latency is +-200ms /

5) A Steam update / download easily maintains over 900kBps

6) P2P / Torrents are fluctuating between 700kBps and 900kBps

This post is not to brag, but to bring to your attention that whatever issues you guys are having are not widespread. Please give me some tests to run / routes to trace etc... I would love to compare accounts if it will help anybody out. Who knows, maybe I'll find a few issues myself that I haven't come across yet?

I'm on the Morningside (Gordon Road) exchange in Durban, if anyone's wondering.

Which area are you in?

I think this has been covered quite extensively in this thread. I know what you guys are seeing at the moment isn't the best - we fully understand that.
Saying this though, the double cap and any other product changes, updates or anything of the sort has been considered by all parties. It only went ahead as it would not have had any significant changes to the current network experiences.

You Say: "It only went ahead as it would not have had any significant changes to the current network experiences. "

I think your statement is also not valid as clearly according to this thread it has had a negative change to the network experience for premium users!

This will however encourage more folks to sign up, so it will have a positive change to AH banks balance, at our expense.

Awesome to hear it! Thanks for sharing your feedback :)

I don't think it's fair to simply assume that something we've done is having a substantial impact on our network without some hard evidence. We would never go ahead and run something if we knew, outright, would cause any network issues.
Again, this has been taken into consideration.

We see the hard evidence when we try stream a youtub vid @ 144p and it does not work, the hard evidence is all these unhappy customers, the support calls and complaints not being attended to.

We did order the capacity on time though, we're just as frustrated as you are that it's taking this long to have it delivered and lit up :( Our team wouldn't go ahead with something if it had a negative affect on the network.

Account has been stable over the past week, every now and then the line dips below 50% but otherwise still far better then my previous ISP.

But we always do honestly try our best to give clients more than they expect,

think you guys need to slow your roll, and start by giving clients what they paid for before trying to give more. ;)

We feel you, and we know things aren't the best now. But I think we need to move past this and look forward to having the ordered capacity delivered. Whether or not we implemented the double data or any other promotion during this time the outcome would have been the same.

I am looking at moving to Somerset West sometime. What is the Business uncapped like over there. Any Somerset West peeps around? Thanks

Haha - Im not on Business but my Home Uncapped is perfect :D No issues with line quality :P However - the issues with business accounts at the moment would affect you (see past like 30 pages)...

I'm guessing that you're corresponding further with AfriGuy via PM. The traces look mostly normal to me, so I'm guessing the next step is to run some comparative throughput tests with the Telkom Guest account.

Dear Afri*

As of yet I still haven't had ANY feedback from AfriGuy or your consultants that have "urgently followed up with" promises for the future are just that promises. They don't have an impact NOW when I need the service I'm paying for promises aren't going to help me get my work done...

I expect the level of service from Telkom, not an ISP with the tagline "Pure internet joy".

If capacity is a problem down south then we should be compensated for not receiving the paid for product. Simply saying we will make up for it doesn't cut the mustard.

Sincerely sorry about this, there should have been feedback on this yesterday, at the absolute latest. You can expect a call from our team shortly.

Again, this has been taken into consideration.

AGAIN... APPARENTLY NOT!
If this was the case, then your response to ALL UNCAPPED ACCOUNT USERS, that the reason for poor speeds and constant shaping of, "...we are waiting for IPC from Telkom...." doesn't hold water, INNIT????

Like I said in the other thread, the inconsistencies in the network, along with strange behaviour on Business accounts in the South ALL point to a shortage of bandwidth.... hence the unstable nature of these accounts. If AH planned it the way you claim, you would have more than enough bandwidth for ALL, and we would not be seeing all the bottlenecks on the AH / MTN network. Never mind the fact that we are not getting what we pay for, the general "brush-off" attitude of AH's responsibility to ALL its clients (not just the NEW capped users) is pretty evident by the lack of expertise and resolution to faults laid before them (AH).

In which universe is it OK to tell a client to wait while you fumble around, deny there's anything wrong, keep billing them, without a hint of service delivery, nor of re-compensation for time and suffering. It would appear that AH's customer relations and public relations needs to be re-evaluated - someone at the top has a very twisted, warped view of what good service is.
