Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Yet my gmail attachments are coming down at a combined 40k, woot for 10M :(

BTW Afriguy, your guy did call me, however when I followed up with the data he requested, another consultant replies and tells me that you have logged a fault with telkom for me??!!?? we have already established that as soon as I switch over to another account all the AfriProblems go away...

Please follow up with Kyle and revert.

Please help AfriMan :(

Issues started appearing around May last year, slow download speeds, high latency, major packetloss, all of those wonderful things.
I opened up a ticket with Afrihost, after 2 months nothing had been resolved and Telkom closed the ticket after not doing a thing for me.

Now I've been having the exact same issues again and they are just worsening. My 4mb uncapped ADSL is in terrible terrible shape and I'm just not getting anything remotely close to what I am paying for. I enjoy online gaming, but with the state of the internet lately it's just not possible to enjoy it without raging at the lag anymore.

I sent this ticket earlier this week.

-----------------------------------------------------

I am really concerned about the quality of ADSL I am receiving.
For the past year we have received very poor/slow internet access on our 4MB uncapped line. Last year in June I filed a support ticked with Afrihost due to extremely slow and intermittent line speed. It took 2 months of Telkom coming to the house and testing and nothing was done to resolve the issue. The last thing I was told was that the problem was due to my ADSL exchange being contested, and that there was not much that could be done until Telkom upgrades the exchange. This was back in August and after 7 or so months nothing has been done and I am still struggling with extremely slow line speed. ADSL isn’t cheap and I’d appreciate it if something could be done, I do not feel as if I am getting what I am paying for.

I attached the results from the Afrihost Network Tester below.

Also these are the kinds of results I'm getting :( appalling.

Your pings are horrible and it looks like this could be either a line fault or possible congestion in your area. I think a good test would be to see if you get similarly slow throughput when you test on saix.net with guest@telkomadsl (password guest)

Wow, today my line is perfect, pings are low and stable.

What has been done?

These results look pretty solid to me. 152ms to the UK is actually really good, and 10ms local is definitely good.

After being away from Afrihost Business account for a while. I have returned from today onto my 10mb Business Uncapped ADSL Account.

Only to do a Speed Test and get this :wtf:

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3406242269

You may have missed some of the goings on of the last few weeks.

We're currently seeing heavy demand in the Cape and we're awaiting additional capacity (actually the balance of last year's order) to be delivered to us. We expect that once capacity lands - we're hoping for early April if all goes well - that many of the symptoms we're seeing in the South will be resolved :(

Not the welcome back I was hoping for though :(

Afriman. I have had a call open since the 18th and still today its not resolved. I have asked Telkom and AH support to check out my line sync speed and today it still shows in my router stats that my line is a 2mb line but it was 4mb before then and I'm paying for 4mb.

Will I get a refund for this "downgrade" I just want my normal 4mb line back. Please can the call be looked at as I am getting hardly any feedback.

Ticket ID: VHW-624-86790

I know about the issues with capacity but my actual line says its syncing at only 2mb no matter what ISP I connect with?

Thanks

I think in general Business Clients in the South are going to experience some "artefacts" due to demand that will sometimes seem like shaping or throttling, and we're doing whatever we can to manage that. Until we receive the upgrade we've requested, there is very little space to play with here, but we're putting a lot of man hours into that.

I know that this is frustrating for clients in this situation, and I know many of you are not in this situation for the first time. What I can promise is that we have some strategies in place for the long term to have backup plans to cover the interim periods when we're awaiting upgrades or when we're seeing short term increase in demand (like update releases, etc).

Well I'm pleased to see you go a little further in admitting there is a problem.

Can you confirm that since there is a bandwidth shortage, that you aren't going to add more customers?

Frankly - don't gives a rats arse about what you do or didn't do, don't care who screwed who over - it's still YOUR problem. We pay you for a service, you're not delivering that service. It's been asked before, I'll ask it again... REFUNDS and/or DISCOUNTS!

It depends on what is happening here. If the line is on a 4Mbps profile and the sync is wrong, then we need to log a fault with Telkom or try to get the sync restored.

If the line is simply on the wrong product - then we can see about how we resolve that in terms of what you paid and what you received.

I couldn't check further cos the router was off. Could you please DM me so I can help with this?

You can always run the magically fix my line tool a second time. First run looks for optimal sync, while the second run sets it at maximum sync.

Thanks. Did that and it resync my line at a higher speed... the sad part is my package did resync with it at a higher speed :D:p

It's a question of demand, and remember that that is mostly in part to lines being upgraded capacity wise. We don't believe the number of clients we've added significantly impacts available resources as much as existing clients receiving more than 50% more capacity on their lines on average. I think this has been a documented issue for most ISPs and we're still awaiting the capacity we ordered in anticipation of this event, which was well before the upgrades even got underway.

Well Afrihost is leaving uncapped clients on their old speed (and price) despite the telkom updates. That should have saved a packet already. It looks like AH planning is very poor.

If someone can shift across to Telkom uncapped, pay less and get twice the speed plus less shaping, then there is a miscalculation, surely?

Not sure I understand what happened here?

I asked if I can adjust the sync speed of my line without having to bother Telkom. You said I should use the tool once for optimal and twice of max. I used it once and it increased it as expected. However, jokingly, I said it didn't increase the speed of my package with AH... which we can address at a later stage ;)

Bleh - dude, I need less subtle jokes - I have the intuition of a dung beetle ;)

Not really, the upgrades didn't really save us anything, just increased the demand for bandwidth by a huge margin. Billing mostly didn't change for us, though demand, especially on business and capped clients, increased hugely. Although some Uncapped clients may have upped their package at a higher cost - there was no way to spend that revenue until Telkom actually delivered on the extra capacity (which we actually ordered before the upgrade).

definitely not the way anyone would have wanted this to play out, but it was not due to any malcontent or misappropriation on our part :(

WTF.........

I have been more than happy with the connection for a loooooooong time. No issues with speed at all for yonks, but since this morning it syncs at 4Mb but to call it a crap connection is putting it nicely. The only internet things that are working nicely are forums.

Youtube streaming sucks hairy gorilla gonads once more and the CLient Zone "Tweak my line" DOES NOT WORK to try and resync to anything higher than 4Mb. I click on 8Mb (the way it was before this morning and would be constantly above 6Mb) but it does nothing. Only getting 3Mb now and I have tried resyncing many times today and even left the router off for about 3 hours. No luck at all.

Meh.....
