Going forward we will look at other options so we can offer more flexibility but I can't make any promised in that regard at this stage.

Its either on or off dude..... And you guys made a massive foobar, with not having it on, if you had it on you would not have any clients being upset.

There are three issues here.

1. You released something that your call centre has screenshots for to support and they do not know how to do it any other way.
2. You did not do market research, eg. what routers will be supported, I do not mean routers from 1999, I mean current routers.
3. Businesses have infrastructure in place and asking them to change their equipment might not be in budget.

So in essence you screwed us!

And above all else, no one stocks these damn routers

+1 I have been waiting for ages for these static ip's, and now...well they are unusable...you might has well not have the product at all in it's current form
 
@Afriman, what I don't understand is, if the IP address is assigned to me (which means no one else should get it), why can I just enter it in where my router asks for a static ip?

No one else is using that IP so why should I not be able to use it in this manner?

Because Telkom does not allow Static IP's, so we need to establish a VPN to MTN, the static IP will be assigned to that connection. Essentially you will have two public IP's, the Dynamic PPPoE IP and then your static IP assigned to the VPN interface.

EDIT: With all the additional overheads of the L2TP connection
 
Just back on track here, my afrihost 10mb business account has proved itself over the last month and a half. The only other time I had a smile this size was when we first for the express+ accounts and when I join TI last year this time when their uncapped was just pure raw bandwith.

It's just annoying that Telkom prevented my line being moved to Afrihost to get a bundle discount before my TI uncapped cancellation went through.

The other models you talk about, is that the billion? Please find me someone who has them in Cape Town

I'll have to check what other models were tested. I know the Billion is the one we officially recommend based on the infrastructure available from MTN :(

Its ok dude, keep your static ip, I will keep my 50 bucks. I am so over Afrihost's uselessness RE this static ip rubbish. I have lost more than enough money, trying to solve these issues and I am now done.

I'm not sure if static IP's work in the same way as it may on other services. From what I understand, we cannot control how Telkom assigns IP addresses, which is why we need to use the "tunnelling" method to create the static channel.
 
And on the other hand, now I have to downgrade from a Netgear n750 to a billion (puke)

Surely you can go to another provider since Afrihost is causing you to change routers.

Most other business adsl accounts require a 24month contract with a router and static ip. Perhaps you should look into this.

I agree, Personally I had to change routers and spent a day or two figuring out how it all works.
This option has much better pricing and no need for a 12 or 24 month contract.

Glad it's working for you. From what I've seen from the guys testing it, it all works pretty nicely :)
 
We got a strange problem, Ive got 8 Afrihost business uncapped accounts, on all 8 of them I cannot open the Apple Appstore at all, Apps that I try and download timeout, everything else is perfect, I swopped over to my Mweb Bonded account, and the Apple Store Opened with no problems at all, any Idea what this can be Afriman?
 
Were there some major issues on the network, or in the WCape in particular last night? I could barely manage 2mbps on a 10mbps business account until late into the night.
 
is it possible to setup the l2tp vpn on a Windows PC that works with afrihost ?
