Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Yes, I'm on 4mb business uncapped.

If this happens, could the twitch problem become a thing of the past? I wonder.

Wow, that's awesome news and maybe it'll help.

Twitch streaming has bee reported several times, mostly in this forum. I've run several tests that seem pretty normal and I've also logged queries with Twitch, will pretty dismal response. :(
I don't understand how you can say it's not an issue with your network when Twitch works well on your capped accounts. Surely this points to there being SOME difference between the 2 accounts that makes Twitch work on the capped but not on the business uncapped?

In general I've tested it on Uncapped and Capped accounts and not found a problem on our side. When it has performed poorly, it's been on both accounts, which for me pointed to a very bandwidth hungry service (from running Bitmeter OS in the background).

Right now, when we are seeing some periods of contention on our South and North networks, it's hard to say definitively whether this is the same issue, or intermittent contention which is not allowing traffic to burst at the higher speeds it needs. We'll only know that for sure when we get the expected upgrades and the issues disappear, which could also be the case.

If the accounts are unshaped then surely the bandwidth hungry nature of the service is irrelevant? Would that then mean that Twitch is being shaped on business uncapped, which prevents the account from bursting?

My tests on the capped and the business uncapped are quite conclusive - I switch to the capped and the streaming works flawlessly. I switch back to the uncapped and it buffers to irritation and beyond.

If you guys can monitor account performance in real time then I can show you this afternoon or evening.

I don't know whether he has an Uncapped or a Business account, but since you are also posting in both threads, doesn't that kind of imply a double standard here.

I think he's very helpful to a lot of people wanting info, and I don't have an issue - unless you're saying that no-one should post in a thread that is not specific to them - in which case there are several repeat posters in this and the Uncapped thread that need to be sanctioned :(
Double standards? Hardly. He was telling people how wonderful an Afrihost service was without having that particular account. He was asked to refrain but continued in the same way. I don't see how that benefits anyone. My task was to inform those who were misinformed, as I do when you misinform or exagerate.

This evidence (which I also found) flies in the face of assurances that business uncapped accounts operate as well as capped ones.

It appears that there is major contention on all uncapped, which resembles shaping. AH continues to add customers, but does not have the required capacity. Hence customers complain about problems that look like shaping.

To my mind I don't care what they call it (as used-car-salesmanish as ISP's are). However it doesn't help their cause to dress the problem up, pretend it doesn't exist, or blame Telkom.

I don't think that's our intention at all.
Drop me a PM if you're having troubles or spotting a noticeable difference here - I'll get our team to check this out ASAP.

My torrents seem to be going a lot slower today than they've been going last week. Towards the end of last night, as well as the whole of today they've been very slow, whereas they've been running full speed for the last week and a half. Any problems in the southern regions? Otherwise I assume it's my line/account.

Odd, torrents shouldn't be running slowly. Have you disabled protocol prioritisation?

I'm willing to help out as well to sort out the Hulu streaming problem. It's the only blip on an otherwise perfect product.

Protocol Prioritisation is off :) I chatted to Afriman and he's suggested some things I can try, so will try that when I'm home from work and then see.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, just like you are entitled to yours. I'd rather leave it at that :(

In fact, although I did not have an account of the same type, I was trying to help people who were having issues, whether it be the account (at which point id inform them to chat to the reps), or whether it was a line issue (at which point I would attempt to help).

I have experienced the pleasure of business on many occasions, and from those experiences I can say that what I type is what I mean. I'm not trying to sell Afrihost products to anyone? I'm just telling them what I think.

If you have a problem with that - I'm available on PM

Is anyone getting strange DNS issues about 11:30PM every now and then? Got it a couple nights back and again tonight. Switching to another ISP works fine. Using google DNS (8.8.8.8) also works fine. Multiple PC's getting the same issue here.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this or if its something on this end.

edit: To clarify why I say DNS, I can ping the websites I'm having issues with just fine via IP, but not via name.

Sounds like there could be something troublesome here.

Could you please PM me with more detail.

Got exactly the same issue. Normal traffic is running at 8.5Mbps (normal/full speed) but torrents are almost zero. What I was able to download in one night has taken 5 days to get to 50%. Protocol prioritization is off and it's a Business uncapped.

Afriman are the Business accounts struggling with bandwidth again? (Eastern Cape)
I'm downloading videos from Youtube and the 2Mbps business account is struggling along between 79 - 105kB/s, instead of 180 - 212kB/s
My capped account downloads the same videos @422kB/s. (4Mbps line)

I'm trying to find some commonality in the reports I'm seeing but I'm not seeing what could be causing this. Not sure that it is DNS, since it doesn't seem to help changing over.

I've asked for an investigation on our side to see what could be different.

As far as the South network is concerned, all is running smoothly, and we're not even shaping at full, which means there is enough capacity for Business accounts to perform at peak :(

Thank you.

Not sure what the hell is going on.
At first I though maybe the upload from the server are being limited, but like I said, it came down at full speed on the uncapped account.
