Is there anywhere that I can check if my account is being throttled?

I am getting a maximum of 50kbps and an average of 20kbps on my 2mbps line. I have used approximately 81.7 GB of data, according to the Afrihost ClientZone.

Why is streaming sucking again? No matter which site, it needs to buffer at 320/360p quality. Speedtest shows no problems at all, neither with speed, nor with latency, and all downloads run about full speed, at around 210 KB/s.

It was running fine for a few months there. Guess I got happy too soon.

Please inform me whether you are aware of any problems that will specifically cause this, because it is becoming a pain in the butt.

We just upgraded the North so contention is pretty much minimal. While we will still need to shape, there is enough headroom on the IPC to ensure that realtime services don't run into problems.

We'll need to look at whether buffering is suffering due to latency or poor throughput and what sort of services are affected.

Drop me a PM so we can run some testing on this ASAP :(

Seeing as this is the business thread, we shouldn't be touching your speeds in any way. Is the speed measured on a torrent or NNTP download. Maybe check that you've turned Business Optimisation off (formerly called Protocol Prioritisation).

So business accounts are not throttled in any way? If so, that would be amazing news! I don't download excessively, but the looming possibility of being throttled has always been an annoyance for me :(.

As far as my downloads go, I was busy downloading a Steam game, which averaged about 20kbps. I also couldn't browse as almost no website wanted to load. Everything seems to be back to normal again now :)

No there is definitely no throttling or shaping on business. That's part of the product core features :)

Video streaming still sucks......

Other free accounts, blah blah blah....not interested in that either. I am paying over 1K per month for a 6Mb Business account coupled with a 10Mb ADSL line and demand decent service from both.
This "try another ISP free account" BS gets stale very quickly when someone answers with that.

Like I said before, no other issues with browsing, downloading etc. Just online video streaming is terrible.

Why?

If the other ISP works then you know it's AH and can move.

People have been complaining about streaming on AH for months, but they'll blame everything else, but their network.

If you want to fight with support instead of getting a solution then good for you.

We're not seeing contention on the North that would affect your video streaming or realtime. Do you know if you're not getting full throughput on the line consistently? Also, is it international streams more affected than anything run or cached locally?

Jitter is way too high.

On a side note, is it so difficult for an ISP (any ISP) to host a freaking Pingtest server in Johannesburg? Seriously.

Like I mentioned, no ther browsing or download speed issues (torrents are regularly over 600k/sec), it is any video streaming. Youtube, Streetfire, Liveleak, all buffer like mad, even at lower quality settings. 2 weeks ago I could be downloading and watching a 1080p Youtube vid at the same time.
Now I have to choose one or the other as the video streaming sucks very badly even on 360p settings on Youtube.

I didn't say I thought it was shaping. But something's definitely up with regards to streaming performance.

Please let me know what exactly you need in the PM.

What the hell is going on. 20Mbps VDSL Business Uncapped and Hulu Plus is unwatchable as it pauses every 30 seconds.

Not impressed.

The latency isn't looking too great :( Is there a traceroute that you're able to post?

Could I have a look at a traceroute or the results from our network test app? I hope it's not your line fault coming up again :(

You can PM through your DSL username or an email address that's linked to your account :) We can see what's happening from there.

There shouldn't be any issues on our end. What are other streaming services like?

Posted my email in a PM. Odd thing is that, while tracert doesn't pick up any latency issues, Speedtest does.

Tracert:
Tracing route to www.google.com [173.194.34.82]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms Broadcom.Home [192.168.1.1]
2 12 ms 11 ms 12 ms 105-236-249-1-esr-lo.mtnbusiness.co.za [105.236.249.1]
3 14 ms 15 ms 15 ms ipc-recieve-rb-1a.za.mtnbusiness.net [41.181.178.53]
4 17 ms 16 ms 16 ms rb-cr-1.za--rb-dca-1.za-a.mtnns.net [196.44.0.146]
5 16 ms 15 ms 14 ms jh-cr-2.za--rb-cr-1.za-a.mtnns.net [196.44.31.95]
6 14 ms 14 ms 14 ms qux-jh-dca-2.za-b.za.mtnbusiness.net [41.181.165.115]
7 196 ms 196 ms 196 ms rb-ad-1--glgix-bloemf-1-a.mtnns.net [209.212.99.13]
8 * 213 ms 213 ms 209.85.255.76
9 195 ms 197 ms 197 ms 209.85.253.31
10 211 ms 211 ms 211 ms lhr14s19-in-f18.1e100.net [173.194.34.82]

Trace complete.

EDIT: Now suddenly the whole Speedtest as well as latency has gone for a ball of dung.

Evening guys

We are receiving reports of client unable to authenticate new sessions on our broadband network, including DSL and Mobile Data. Our network engineers are currently investigating with MTN to determine the cause of this. Some clients may be unable to connect to the internet due to this problem. Client who are already connected should remain connected, and we encourage not to reboot their routers until the problem has been resolved. We sincerely apologise to affected clients for the inconvenience.

Really sorry about the downtime :(
