Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Screenshot of a Youtube vid I am trying to watch in 720p on a 6MB connection. Note: trying......

Notice the times in the bottom right corner and the buffer differences.

And notice how long the video is. This sort of thing happens to ALL Youtube vids I try watch, regardless of length of vid.

Now I go across the road to my neighbour who has a 2MB ADSL line from Telkom, and the vid is immediately watchable with hardly any buffering at all, also on 720p.

I've been getting the same thing on my 10m line. Works perfectly fine when I switch to my Web Africa free account.

That's a big plus! Does it also work on AH? I don't care about Netflix crap
Depends on what you're streaming. Twitch.tv for example rarely works for a lot of people.

I've just cancelled my business uncapped. It's clear that this streaming issue isn't going to get sorted any time soon. It's too bad, everything else was working 110%

Cancelled today on afrihost as well. Speed was always ok with afrihost, but now suddenly I see what I was missing with real time services when I tried a new account for the first time. My ping suddenly dropped from 45ms to 9 ms on a local speed test, and even international seems way faster. Streaming now runs seamlessly as well. My account even authenticates faster on my router.

Was planing to signup beginning of August for Ah business account, i also stream allot Netflix, you-tube etc. Is this acc not performing good on streaming ??

International streaming on Afrihost isn't good currently.

How long have these issues been around? I've been out of town since Thursday and my 8Mbit AH Business was perfect then. 800+KB/s p2p and http downloads and 1080p Youtube was fine.

Okay thnx so you wont recommend for streaming, any acc that perform good on streaming?

I was Afrihost Business Uncapped' biggest fan. They have slowly oversubscribed their network to the point where it performs worse than other home uncapped accounts.

It makes zero sense to pay a premium for a product that does not perform as advertised. You will find the product is absolutely amazing to download, but useless for realtime services.

Youtube (local cached content works perfectly, everything else buffers continuously).
Skype (will not function properly).
Twitch (only if you watch at ****ty resolutions.
Gaming (increased latency - 400 - 600 ms on Diablo. 300 - 500 ms on LOL etc).
Browsing seems to work ok most of the time.

I have switched to WA uncapped, and for now it performs the way AH did before MTN came onto the scene.

Before you subscribe have a careful look through this thread as to how Afrihost lies, and constantly denies any problem, even when provided with proof thereof.

Thnx for the feedback, was looking forward to join them. Then i suppose axxess business acc will also not perform because they also use MTN ?

Never tried access. Giving WA a shot due to positive feedback, and they've been my backup bandwidth to allow me to actually work during office hours at times

Still extremely poor speeds when streaming, cannot even watch the cricket test match on supersport. As reported above this account seems to be only good for downloading, otherwise its poor. Afrihost deny any issues, yet many people complain about the same issues.

I'm on Axxess home uncapped 10mb. The speed is now 1/3rd of what it used to be. Maxes out at 300kb anytime of day or night. Cancelled yesterday, looking for a new provider.

You should have upgraded to Axxess Business.

but since you already cancelled don't bother with Afrihost as they have the same network.

I'm on Web Africa Business and it's great.

Balls that one has to buy a business account just to get decent home use.

You need to post what line you got, that seems ok for a 2Mb.

Seems to be a line fault according to AH support.
My Client Zone line tools cannot run and even their Test My Line tool in CZ is unable to give me a stat readout.
Now syncing at between 3Mbs and 4Mbs... line was syncing fine at 7138Mbs previously.

I will be on their up to 10Mbs 200GB capped account from the 1st of next month, but with the above issues, what is the point really.
I hope this can be resolved by the 24th, not willing to limp through a month while paying for speed that is unattainable.

/meh

EDIT:

HoHum... hooptime(tm) it seems, up to 10Mbs line syncing at under 4, now AH support wants me to run Telkom guest account speed tests... the problem is the line sync speed and not a speedtest issue... what good is a speedtest on a line syncing at under 4Mbs when it used to syn at over 7Mbs??

Its weird that the video is buffering or freezing when you've buffered ahead, unless I misunderstand this screenshot.

I think it's always best to test for yourself. We are investigating throughput to US based services, but our international throughput to EU/UK has been pretty good when I've tested. US throughput is generally good, but we see some problems with routing internally within the US for some services.

If you testa Free GB account, this should give you an indication of how a Business account will perform (if you are matching Uncapped speed to your line's capability)
