Hi all
Switched to Afihost business and got fixed ip address. Before I set up the fixed ip ran a speedtest and got all most full line speed for 10meg line. After setting up the fixed ip I get speedtest of around 5.5meg. Is this normal.

Thanks
Sopcast is working again. Thanks.
Not a line fault, when this happens I can switch to my web africa account and get full speed without having to reboot the router. Also local traffic remains solid, I can get full speed on a local test. Only international is affected. So deff not a line fault.
Now you see why I said what I did earlier? You guys like blaming the line when it's not.
Another weekend with extremely high latency. The moment I switch back to my WA account, everything becomes perfect.

As I replied on previous post, rebooting your router changes nothing on the ISP network. The only change could possibly be changing IP addresses, but you would need to leave your router off for some time for the IP you were using to go back into circulation, or generally you will get the same IP. A router reset is only basically resetting the line sync to the exchange, doesn't really have an effect on the ISP network - but I'm happy to be corrected if this assumption is incorrect![]()
The problem is with AH, like I said - when I experience this speed decrease it only happen with international. I can do a local speed test to Rosebank and get full speed without switching accounts or rebooting the router. It almost seems like shaping on international. I am still waiting on critical care regarding this issue. They said they will investigate - still haven't heard anything
^^ This... exactly my experience ... almost like IPC issues of old... feels just like international being throttled.
Where are you based?

I don't know of general DNS issues. What sort of issues are you seeing? Are you running any traces to IP addresses you can't reach?
I have currently canceled my openweb gold account and I'm in the process of finding a new isp. This account will mainly be used for streaming during the day and downloads at night. Looking at the comments about I am a little hesitant to use afrihost as an isp. But, I am willing to give it a try if I can test the service for a day or two first. Are there any 2mbps test accounts available? I know 2mbps is not ideal for streaming, but it works well enough while using any capped account.
Just random time outs and dropped connection, fixed itself when the wind died down, is gonna be a FUN rainy season![]()
