Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Apologies for misinterpreting where the jump to EU takes place in my trace route; I see my mistake.
However, the MTN network does have much higher latency during the jump to EU, easily 20-40ms compared to other ISPs. 20-40ms might not be much when browsing/streaming but it definitely makes a world of difference when gaming.

I'd also like to point out that we're getting more professional feedback/diagnostics from people on this forum (for free) than the critical care staff of Afrihost who only seem to be able to provide pre-recorded responses to anything with say to them once given facts. In other words, these are people who are getting paid to provide an escalated support service, yet default to first line support type responses such as "Have you restarted your router?", "Have you tried a capped product?", "Have you requested a port reset from Telkom?" when confronted with irrefutable proof that the issue is on their network (I'm not referring to my 200ms hop issue here, that was my bad).

That shouldn't be the case, and if it is, we'll need to review how that team works. Critical Care is special unit setup by Gian to give personal and high level support for cases that are slipping through the cracks of regular support and require a more hands on approach. We also only accept the very best of the best into critical, both in terms of technical knowledge and personal client service.

If you're not actually feeling you're getting critical care, then there's something pretty wrong and I'll look into that personally. Please PM me the details :(

My PC and console are setup via DHCP, and I am using the AH DNS server addresses....

I don't think we're doing anything non-standard. I've never had a problem myself on PS3 and Xbox playing COD or FIFA online :(

Okay, so after some fiddling around with the router, if I set the PS3 as a DMZ host, then COD shows a NAT type of "open", YAY...If I remove the DMZ setting then the NAT type changes back to strict...maybe some issue with the PSN ports, will look at port forwarding as the other alternative...so far so good...

Awesome, sounds like we're making progress :)
Keep us posted!

What the &*($@*&@*#((*& Afrihost?!?!?!

I'm getting the following error on my account when going to any website:

error.JPG

The address always changes to 196.30.26.166:443 which resolves to capexceeded.mtnbusiness.co.za.

How does a uncapped account go over it's cap?

Sounds like there may be an issue with the data links, please PM me your DSL username and I'll get this checked out ASAP!

We have implemented changes on our systems which could already be taking effect. Glad that you're getting great service. Would be great if you post your stats for local and international throughput.

Spoke too soon unfortunately. Afrihost account back to its old tricks again while my test WA account is flying :(

Oh well..

Everything after hop 3 is atrocious. What the hell.
41.181.221.214 is, according to whois lookups, an MTN hop outside of Kimberly near Douglas. Is there any way to route through PE from PMB rather than through JHB?
EDIT: speeds fine btw

Nope, I was wrong 130KBps.

WOW.

I ask again - with problems like this how on earth can you say "Our DSL Broadband network is running like a bomb! Everything is copacetic and we’re good to GO!'
