Hi guys
How bad is the afrihost shaping? What speeds do you experience on a 1mbps and how much can you pull per month 100-120gig acceptable? signing up end of month hopefully

This is the business uncapped thread and because it is business there is ZERO shaping. You can download torrents at full line speed during business hours and after hours. Gaming is also fantastic.

There is no shaping, you should be able to do 200-250Gb a month on a 1Mb line if you can find enough things to download.

Is it better than the normal uncapped, before we stated getting shaped about 2 months ago?

The shaping profile on the business accounts is the same as the capped accounts. So yes.

The Afrihost guys on the forum confirm regularly that the business uncapped accounts are exactly like their capped accounts, except that they only allow one connection and is speed limited to whatever speed your purchased. I max out my 10Mb account without trying, the only thing I have problems with is streaming which I never had in the past. But everything else is great.

Not every one watches netflix on their PC. Some set it up on their PS3 for example.

Unotelly is only a service that let's you access region restricted content. Like for example if you try to go to www.netflix.com, it'll say "Not available in your region". But if you setup Unotelly you can fool Netflix into thinking you live in the US.

No it is not the only services that can fool Hola can

Before I left home this morning I tried to watch some Netflix (Business Account) but it was of such poor quality that I just left it...

This was at 6:15. Performance was good over the weekend though.

I see more and more people are moving over to the business accounts. This is definitely going to impact the network in a negative way. Think I must rather go 300GB capped at the end of the month.

Cool, streaming like youtube?

Awesome, so I have just upgraded from 2Mbps Uncapped, to 4Mbps Business Uncapped!

Yes, I am serious about my internet!

Afriman, How long will it take for 2Mbps to become 4Mbps?

My speeds are absolutely shocking this morning. Live chat - unavailable. Support line - hold forever with no answer... what is going on....

Sorry that we are not attending to your query. Drop me a PM so I can help.

I'm seeing major congestion and backhaul issues in the North due to the rain. We'd need to investigate further to see what is happening in your specific situation.

My own exchange is currently poked due to rain and I'm mostly using my MiFi :(

We will manage the bandwidth pools to make sure that each has the maximum amount of bandwidth to ensure the best experience.

Not sure why you had that issue though. Which DNS service are you using? Maybe that's a peak time for them with overseas subscribers?

We'll have to keep looking into this for you, it's pretty odd, unless there is an intermittent throughput or latency problem that won't be as apparent on a download or torrent.

Will reply to your PM :(

Business Uncapped is never shaped, so it's really a very different product. We also add a QoS element to Uncapped, which helps to ensure the best experience, which we do not apply to Business accounts.

After 2.7 months on Afrihost Business Uncapped and not sign of the throttler I'm satishfied for now. AfriMan has been excellent so far and even up to the point where he rememebed to folloup in x days instead of leave it to me to follow up with him. I do however remember before the MTN move I said that it would be the end of AH, but it has not. So I can only eat my hat in that ;)

Should we then lodge faults with AH with regards to our Telkom lines so that a technician can check them out or should we just wait patiently until the rain has gone? Am I going to suffer with 1Mbps on a 2Mbps line all through Summer? Thankfully my MiFi also helped to reduce my displeasure since it allowed me to game.

At the moment my downloads are topping out at 1.5Mbps, any chance you can help me resync my line since my clientzone still refuses to work properly.
