Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

This issue has been coming for a while, and I mean a week or so, there was definitely degradation on the afrihost network

Is this failure effecting just Afihost or all service that use MTN Business ADSL? I have a business that has 3 x 10mb Business lines and relies on a fast connection. Shall I move my account to another provider?

I'm not 100% sure on the extent of this.

Just to add my comments.

My FNB account has decent performance, but with the Afrihost account I can't even open the speedtest site.

It seems to me that it must be a Afrihost related issue, no?

The Southern Region DSL has been affected by an IPC failure. Telkom Specialists are onsite resolving the issue.

Can we expect refunds for down time?

Serious ? If you want that kind of stuff pay R10k+ a month for a fiber/diginet line with a SLA, ADSL is best effort, how many times do we have to say this!, trust me as much as you don't like being down, Afrihost hate it aswell

This is not my ADSL lines issue, its a ISP account issue.

And the fact of the matter is that IT IS A BUSINESS SERVICE, not a home account.

True dat! We really do everything to avoid this kind of issue, but with the costs involved with IPC, it's really difficult to have redundancies that can guarantee 100% uptime. Unfortunately IPC outages are a reality of the internet environment (at least in SA anyway). A major drop in IPC costs would go a long way to ensure that we could have unlit capacity in standby to make sure we can manage these hardware failures better :(

So it's essentially a best effort business account, there you go. Don't get me wrong it frustrates me too, but in the end you get what you pay for

And besides why don't you just have a 1GB free account as a backup ? I have not lost a minute of work time other than changing the DSL logon details

I really don't mind it being a best effort service. I cannot afford a 10mb dedicated link. However, the complete lack of communication and broken promises have left a very sour taste......

Then don;t brand your packages as business.

I don't any telecomms service can guarantee 100% uptime. Even fibre networks have technical problems sometimes.

We just need to make sure that we're doing everything possible to prevent such issues and to manage them as best as we can while they occur so that the impact is kept to the absolute minimum possible :(

I understand your frustration but I don't think how we brand the product has any difference over how it operates. No company could offer a business product if the criteria is 0% failure rate. Unfortunately technology can sometimes fail :(

We have done our best to communicate and share the information we have with our affected clients. We'll continue to post updates as the issue is investigated until we know that it has been resolved :(
