Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

This is becoming a complete joke!! Really guys, we are paying you for this service!!

These "temporary" glitches are coming thick and fast these days. Maybe MWEB or someone will be better, now that all their bandwidth hogs have moved to AfriHost.

So, when should I expect to have my account operating at the correct speed? I'm still going along very slowly. And again I fear it sounds like you think it is fixed. It is not. Pings have come down. Speed is still very slow.

This definitely isn't 100% resolved just yet - the network is busy recovering so we should see improvements really soon :(

I know this is frustrating. The network demand has returned to normal, but latency issues are an issue here. Again, this is something that we're sorting out.
You also aren't in the most ideal situation as the current line issues we logged a fault for will most likely worsen the issues :(

I dont know about downloads or p2p traffic, but my business traffic seems great today.

:( The speeds should be normalising soon.
What action did Afrihost take to normalise the traffic? Was it adjusting the "shaper" to more aggressively shape the vanilla uncapped accounts? Was it divine intervention and the network fixed itself? Or did MTN do something? Enquiring minds want to know.

We implemented heavier shaping, this seems to be affecting most of the JHB IPC region :(
As soon as there is less demand on the network we'll ease shaping as much as we can.

Noted here that the shaping being implemented only affects the Home Uncapped accounts.

Thank you,

This at least is much more acceptable.

Are torrents and other p2p protocols on the Home Uncapped a problem, or are they on all your accounts? I think it's time to introduce P2P limits on business accounts, and add p2p unshaped access as an extra, like you do with static IP. We, as a business, shouldn't suffer like that.

Thought as much, better suit up with your flame suit as things are bound to heat up in the general forum.

I'm not trying to be difficult and I know you don't have much influence to solve this problem but to me it's patently clear you have a capacity issue in the Gauteng region.

The speed is looking much better. Introducing limits on a Business account isn't ideal - as we feel that local QoS/ shaping can be done from the premises. We want to allow our Business clients the freedom to do what they'd like.

We're doing our absolute best to eliminate as much latency as possible :(

I'm simply thinking Business, and Business Extra. Something like that. Thing is, our office is being paired with people who, by the sound of it, impact on our experience, by large-scale p2p downloading. I would have no qualms with p2p on my business uncapped being limited, as I think most businesses won't. I do, however, have a problem with others impacting on my experience. There can't be no penalty, which is why I think a business extra can cost a bit extra, and have no p2p shaping.

I do get where you're coming from - but I don't think it's fair for us to make a blanket change across our Business Uncapped accounts :(
If there are P2P activity in your office I'd say the best way forward is to setup a QoS to disallow this.

There is no P2P activity in my office. I do get the impression that you've acquired a bunch of new "offices". They are impacting on our office speeds. As an example, where we charge by the hour, I can't have half speed downloads on graphics drivers when we are dependent on our CAD packages, and thereby our graphics. And this was the exact situation I had just now.

Get a leased line if you want the best experience.

There shouldn't be 50% of your download speeds on a Business account :( Please PM me your account and we'll get this looked into.

He is trying to say that the lack of capacity is because other users are doing p2p.

I recently recommended a friend try Afrihost business so hope you guys sort out the capacity issue.

This isn't a capacity issue.
By no means are we blaming P2P - we're seeing some increased load, and have seen trends that this is lessening, latency issue this morning barred.
