Hi, I am new to this thread, I currently have a Uncapped 2Mbps line (not business) and hefty shaping/throttling on all downloads.

Does the business account have any shaping? Can you get maximum speeds with all download types?

Hello fellow Afribusies, I was pointed in the direction of UnoDns. Please give my your views as I would like to sign up. There's a lot of channels for 4 dollars. Any lags, complaints, etc, etc.

UnoDNS performs very well for the most part.

What device are you going to stream from? Some people swear by the WD Live but seeing as I'm heavily invested in the iTunes ecosystem I use the Apple TV and I have very little to complain about.

Use the Cape Town and São Paulo DNS servers.

Thank you very much for the reply Hush9300, but I'm a total noob wrt online streaming/online tv :o. I just assumed that I would open the UnoDns page and watch, why would I need a device? I'm old school, download and watch :o

The only devices I have is the pc and a lekker 32"led monitor.

You can watch online but I much prefer to have it on the TV. If you have a Smart TV then you're good to go as well.

Also, you would have to visit the websites to stream as you can't go via the UnoTelly website and the better ones like Netflix, Hulu and Sky Go require subscriptions.

BBC iPlayer is free and they have some nice content.

I have absolutely no connection on my ADSL line, teh same thing happened last night. It just dropped and refuses to connect but with the AH lines closed till 9am I am left high and dry. Thank goodness for my AfriHost Mobile but this doesn't help me considering this ADSL line is here for a reason.

Not every one watches netflix on their PC. Some set it up on their PS3 for example.

Unotelly is only a service that let's you access region restricted content. Like for example if you try to go to www.netflix.com, it'll say "Not available in your region". But if you setup Unotelly you can fool Netflix into thinking you live in the US.
 
Gaming Latency

Was wondering what experience you guys have with gaming to europe.
I had a 4mb business uncapped account a month or two back, but my latency was always in the region of 230ms (From JHB).
IS based accounts give me as little as 195ms with highs being 210ms.
Also had latency jumps (Up to 360ms) which I dont get with my current IS based account.
Other than the gaming latencies it was a really good performer.
I was hoping this has improved as I would like to try these accounts again.

I find MTN a little bit higher than IS, but it won't make a difference for international, ie 200ms vs 180ms.
 
Afriman, How can I upgrade to business? If I go in the new clientzone, the change package option says "business 2Mbps" but it shows the price for the non-bundle option, and it doesn't say uncapped. I would like the option with a bundle. Where is that? Or will it be bundled because my current option is bundled?

I had the same problem. I had to use the old clientzone to upgrade and rebundle to the 2mb business package. I didnt see a bundle option in the new clientzone. It all worked out though.

If you have a bundle, you need to unbundle, upgrade, then rebundle (I asked AfriMan the same question last week).
 
Still not getting my proper line speed. My 2meg line is peaking at 1209Kbps but on average I am lucky if I get past 1Mbps. It seems my line has been slower with AH than it was with Telkom.

Was trying to play Star Trek Online and I was getting serious lag.
 
Hi guys
How bad is the afrihost shaping? What speeds do you experience on a 1mbps and how much can you pull per month 100-120gig acceptable? signing up end of month hopefully
