Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Signed up for a 10mb business uncapped account for our office yesterday, and holy crap, the speeds are almost too good to be true. Tried to put it through its paces by running a torrent (limited to 300kbps), an HD YouTube video which didnt buffer, a download from microsoft.com, and frantic Facebook page loading, all simultaneously, and it didn't skip a beat. It really is truly unshaped, at an AMAZING price.

Thanks Afrihost for this phenomenal account! :D

Indeed. :D

Tell me, Afriguy, if I ask you now to assist me, or what I need to do, to upgrade both my ADSL account and line speeds to 2Mbps, how long would it take approximately?

1 Meg is so 2006.

The line upgrade usually takes about 48 hours to process :)
Drop me a PM and I'll see what I can rustle up.

Bloody brilliant work, mate! Thanks a lot for the prompt response on the PM's.

Your customer service is just at another level ;)

Thanks for the compliment dude, made a good start to a weekend :D
Glad you're all sorted - have fun with the faster speeds!

If you're synced at 8Mbps, your line is essentially on the 10Mbps (DSL3) tier and won't be subject to a change in price. So your bundle pricing is not going to change unless you downgrade your line to 4Mbps for a saving.

To clarify I stay on 4mb or pay to upgrade to 10mb package. Nothing in between?

From adsl line perspective, not from data perspective.

5,6,7,8 and 10meg lines all cost the same.

But nothing is stopping you running a 6meg account on an 8meg line.

+1
How long has this been going on for? If its more than a day, I would log a fault with telkom :(

It's been like this for a few days now. Just checked and it's still in the high 20+ms to the exchange. Should be much better since the vdsl box is just across the road from me.

I'm sure the SNR down was much better than 33.5, not sure, think so.

SNR Up : 9.6
SNR Down : 33.5
Line Attenuation Up : 4.4
Line Attenuation Down : 3.6
Data Rate Up : 1021
Data Rate Down : 10239

These high pings on the second hop are very concerning. Do you get the same on another network or ISP account or a Capped account?

Seems to suggest congestion - but we'd need to test before we jump to conclusions on this :(

Will give it a test on my FNB account and revert.

***Edit***

Did another traceroute and it seems like on the FNB account it does the same. First hop is 20+ms. :(

Yeah it's definitely an exchange problem. :(
Are you getting this 24/7? Or only during certain times of the day?

I will check over the weekend to see what it does, but I think it's 24/7. Reason is that I played a BF4 session latish one night and it was like this.

Will have to do some tests to make sure though.

Now on the phone to the telkom fault reporting... Waiting for someone oneday to answer a call ... sigh

I moved over to the 6Mb Business Uncapped package (from the previous 150Gb Capped one, also on 6Mb), and could not be happier.
Even with Hellscum's line issues that are still not resolved, despite what they say, the line is actually working better than it did on the previous package.

Traceroute I just done:

And both those tests where done while I am listening/watching a Youtube vid.
I could not do that on the previous package.

Strange? Definately. But it works perfectly fine now, so be it.

Just signed up for this, but was wondering...

The protocol Prioritisation: Is there any reason to activate it if I am simply a home user? Extra charges or some such? Can I just leave it deactivated?

Thanks :)

Nope - it's just for business feature (if bosses don't want their uses torrenting on their systems :D)

No savings or anything if you switch it on
