It's been like this for a few days now. Just checked and it's still in the high 20+ms to the exchange. Should be much better since the vdsl box is just across the road from me.

I'm sure the SNR down was much better than 33.5, not sure, think so.

SNR Up : 9.6
SNR Down : 33.5
Line Attenuation Up : 4.4
Line Attenuation Down : 3.6
Data Rate Up : 1021
Data Rate Down : 10239

Sounds like maybe the box is seeing too much traffic or perhaps there's an issue on the copper portion of the cable from the exchange to your premises. Otherwise stats are not great but definitely within range :(

Will give it a test on my FNB account and revert.

***Edit***

Did another traceroute and it seems like on the FNB account it does the same. First hop is 20+ms. :(

International Speedtest
Downloaded 20.0 megabytes in 27 seconds. (745.40 KB/s)

If it's the same on our account and other ISP - definitely line or exchange related. Consistent latency is usually the line rather than exchange - which tends to be intermittent (depends on the level of congestion) :(

Wonderful speeds for the whole month now. Haven't been upgraded to 4mb by Telkom yet, but I'm not even bothered about that at that mo.

Awesome - but knock on wood though, hope your upgrade will make things even more awesome :)

I moved over to the 6Mb Business Uncapped package (from the previous 150Gb Capped one, also on 6Mb), and could not be happier.
Even with Hellscum's line issues that are still not resolved, despite what they say, the line is actually working better than it did on the previous package.

Traceroute I just done:

And both those tests where done while I am listening/watching a Youtube vid.
I could not do that on the previous package.

Strange? Definately. But it works perfectly fine now, so be it.

Definitely looks a lot better than what we've seen you post before. I can't imagine why but maybe shaping was being exaggerated by the line issue. Very odd - but just glad you've found something that works :)

I will check over the weekend to see what it does, but I think it's 24/7. Reason is that I played a BF4 session latish one night and it was like this.

Will have to do some tests to make sure though.

Now on the phone to the telkom fault reporting... Waiting for someone oneday to answer a call ... sigh

Sorry that this is such an ongoing issue. IF you've tested with multiple account then it's definitely the line or exchange. Let me know how the Telkom fault progresses and if there is anything I can do to help here :(

I don't think it any disohonesty intended on our part - we only recently introduced this feature for added value to business owners. Many small offices or business go for the business option, but find their staff running torrents over their network and then other staff can't get mails or access web based services. So it's purely a value added feature. The business account is never shaped by us - we let clients decide if they want to shape their connection (which also saves on buying expensive firewalls and exchange servers to achieve the same goal :)

Sorry, but that's just not good enough.

When I purchase a product that is advertised as "unshaped", I don't expect it's default setting to be "shaped". If you do that, then you either need to advertise it as such or you need to let me know about the setting so that I can choose to disable or enable it. If you don't let me know, then it's false advertising, because without my intervention the product will be shaped.

For the record, I use my business accounts for business purposes, but like to be able to download torrents after hours.

As I've mentioned previously, you can turn the setting on or off at any time in ClientZone and it will take effect in a matter of minutes.

With regard to default settings - we have to go by what we feel is the general pulse of the client's using this product. After all, we developed the feature to assist the numerous clients who have complained about poor performance and degraded throughput for vital business services - only to find that an employee is running torrents or NNTP at work.

We have to weigh up how many clients would prefer to have the feature on by default and how many would prefer to set it themselves - and we do believe we made the right call. If experiences proves otherwise, we can change it around.

Default setting for me was also off..

Hi, I think it's maybe you were already a business account holder when the feature was implemented. Mine was also off by default. I think the feature is on by default for new subscribers.

I think it should be on by default but that clients should be made aware of it and how to turn it off. For me I had to go through a long process of calling emailing and trouble shooting to find out after a while that it was the protocols that needed to be switched off. Also took sometime to find where it was.

Think maybe just educate users more :) loving the service though

YEs, for new signups and upgrades, we'll switch the feature on by default. In terms of Business clients, we'd rather they have slow torrents vs a compromised business connected :)

That's a good idea - we'll see if there is a way to let more clients know about this when they sign up - as we still have many private users who prefer Business for an Unshaped experience

Hi Guys,

Ok, so when are we going to see these discounts? New people that sign up already have the discount, but I still have to pay R897?? This seems a bit crappy to me?

The international latency isn't too bad - not 100% though :(
Could you please paste the full traceroute results so we can see where the issues/ latency is being introduced?

I agree! We should also be getting the discounts by now.
