Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Looking at that 5.x SNR, means 1 of 2 things, your router is faulty or the copper line is faulty.
If telkom tech tells you the line is fine with a SNR of 5.x then they are lying str8 in your face and pulling the wool over your eyes if you believe them.
Let them sync your line at 2 or 4mb to get it more stable.

And the advice from the Afrihost tech is spot on, something is wrong because with the SNR you going to get up and downs.

Generally a value below 6dB is of concern. Sometimes that's the best it can stabilise at and I've occasionally seen some clients manage a workable connection on 5.5dB. Remember a dB is a ratio, not an absolute value, so it's really just a guideline. We generally like to see at least 12dB for a healthy connection.

Afrigoeters, help asseblief !!

Need to get some assistance here, I just "upgraded" from a 1MB Home to a 2MB Business account.

The Afrihost client zone states 2MB (nice !) , however Speedtests still show 1MB.
Halp, please (synch is 2048, and testing with Telkom does the 2048 speed nicely)

GRH-360-65065 ticket number - thus far Kgothatso has been helpful but cannot seem to get it sorted for me !

If you upgraded your data account, your shaping policy basically has to register the new rate limit and shaping rules need to come into effect. This sometimes takes up to 24 hours, but will generally come into effect by midnight of that day :)

2.5Mbps download again on my 10Mb business uncapped. Not congestion, just ****ty Afrihost. When I do a speedtest it says my closest server is in Cape Town even though I am in Durban. So Afrihost is doing something wrong on their side.

We'll need a little more info on this. I see some spikes and timeouts on the trace, so we'd need to ensure that this is happening due to the network, and not occurring on the exchange or your line - so we'll need more tests. Your trace looks otherwise normal, so we'd also need to check your throughput using some testing accounts.

Drop me a PM so I can help you :)

There is some confusion on the prices of the business uncapped.

On the website frontend, it says that 6MB uncapped is R1097, but when I choose the 6MB uncapped from the "edit my package" in the clientzone, it says the price is R797? Which is it?

You're looking at a Bundle price vs a standalone data price :)

My internet has been !@#$ the last few days. I tried gaming just now, what a bad idea.

The lag was so bad I could hardly move. Yet my ping was 30ms in the game. No, no downloads were running at the time.

Im currently in the market for uncapped, would you guys advice on the following:
Afrihost Gold 4mb Uncapped or Afrihost Silver 2mb Uncapped.

Im in vredekloof heights area. Looking to use ADSL for netflix, xmbc streaming, torrenting during day.
Some online gaming also.

Any advice? Or would other packages be better. Im trying to stay in the +-R700pm all included.

I'm assuming you're look at 4Mbps Uncapped vs 2Mbps Business Uncapped.

It really depends on your personal preference and the service you use/need as priority. If you're primarily streaming and using realtime services, you may be happy with the 4mbps. If you want maximum bandwidth all the time for downloads or just to determine your own priority and QoS, then an unshaped option might be best.

Yeah mine is like 20-21db for downstream, and 9-10db for upstream

Connection has been behaving itself for the last 2 days. Used +-21Gb in the last two days, and PC was switched off last night.
I don't know who did what, but thanks a million:)

Awesome, let's keep fingers crossed it stays like this!

Just a few tests. You don't have trial accounts yet do you?

Just grab a free 1gig capped account. The profile is the same as their business uncapped.

We don't I'm afraid :(
Tests will be awesome though, not that I'm biased or anything.

Seriously though, if you're looking to sign up - checkout on the website. If you aren't happy within the first 60 days we'll give you double your money back. Not much to lose :)

I've been told by support that this isn't the case. Can you please confirm Afriguy?

Me: Could you also please confirm that this capped account uses the same bandwidth as Business Uncapped?

Support: This is a 1 GB free account and it does not use the same data as the uncapped account.

We've proved a few times already that the guys manning the helpdesk at AH have no clue.

Sorry about the wrong info here :(
Both our Capped and Business Uncapped products are unshaped.
