According to the ClientZone, I've done 410GB this month so far. I've decided to install every single ( 270-odd ) Steam game on my account.

Happy customer here.

EDIT: 4MB Business Uncapped

Hi,

Where are you based, I cannot even download DOTA2 updates. It takes 2 hours to download 30MB via Steam. Pathetic speeds. I sued to have a fantastic connection, and since December everything has gone to the dogs.

This is the speed today, 4MB Uncapped: (International test)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2168 kbps (271 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 520 kbps (65 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 156 ms
Wednesday, 15 January 2014 06:43

Not getting what I am paying for, this is really pathetic, been the same story since December with no solution.

Most sites as loading slowly, Windows updates slow. Wont be able to do more tests today as I am out of the office until this evening.

At this time of the morning there is not generally peak demand, so throughput and latency should be consistent. Are you sure there are no other issues on your line?

I want to give serious props to Kyle from your support department. Acknowledged and dealt with my problem, found the fault on your side.....

I am very impressed and happy with Afrihost.

Ironically however, an few minutes later Mpho from your support department sent me an email to say "there is nothing wrong with your account, contact telkom for a port reset".... made me smile even more :P

Kyle is one of our shining stars, we're very lucky to have him.

We'll chat with Mpho, he may have misunderstood the situation :(

I'm currently connected to the exchange which is about 3KM away from me. There are 2 MSANs in the area. The closest one is about 600m away from me. Who do I talk to to get moved there? My line is with AH obviously.

My reason asking is last time I used the ticket system it took 3 follow ups from me for them just to change my sync speed (still isn't what I asked for actually, but what the hell) - and this isn't a "general" ADSL query.

We don't really have a process to request this. At present, you can only request a VDSL upgrade if you are already connected to an MSAN.

Sorry for the issues with your sync speed. Maybe drop me a PM and let's see what can be done here :)

400 KB/s is 3.2Mbps which is a perfectly reasonable expectation from a business account. My 4Mbps business account used to average 3.45Mbps.

Yes, definitely a decent speed. With the fluctuation in Telkom's infrastructure, etc - nothing wrong there :)

We've run several tests and logged queries with MTN to ensure that there are no general international issues. At present they have confirmed that there are none :(

Well something is not right, all speedtest for local seem to be OK, International is very slow. Would it be possible to have my line tested, I pay Afrihost for my ADSL line.

We haven't picked up any issues on our news tests on our side.

Twitter team says otherwise:

We're sorry to hear that. We're seeing high demand on our network, but we believe additional ordered capacity will improve speeds -s

They are never shaped or throttled, but overall contention on the network can sometimes affect throughput :( -s

When demand peaks, there could be periods of contention. However we should also troubleshoot to determine if there are other issues

Also some feedback from other people on Business Accounts:

yeah, it's been pretty slow. Been getting 85% of full line speed only after 9pm.

My twitter stream has been full of speed complaints for a while now.

not just the business account, my personal account has also been crawling.

seen a lot of complaints on twitter to that effect

Same here. They checked and found nothing wrong on their end :/

I don't think we're contradicting each other here. Your original query was about NNTP to our news server, which I replied that we've not experienced issues. It was not a question in any way related to general speeds or capacity.

A little unfair :(

We can log more queries, but we'll need some diagnostic tests to prove to MTN that there is an issue on international, like speed tests and traceroutes.

Really sorry to hear this. Have you reported to Telkom?

No, I reported it to Afrihost. That is why I pay Afrihost for a service, not Telkom.
I gave up phoning Telkom as their call centre staff make me want to start WW3.....

On that note, I did get a call from Telkom about an hour ago (shock, horror, sky will fall, Hell freeze approaches, etc) after the fault was reopened for the trillionth time in ten months and they are going to send a Tech out to check. Again.

Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock......

Is it not also possible that there could be an issue on the Telkom side?

To my knowledge, Telkom can't influence international breakout, so it doesn't matter whether you break out locally or to international, it happens at the same IPC. What I have found is that if there are minor issues on the line, they seem negligent on local but pretty severe on international.

Need more info though to say more :(
