Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

To my knowledge, Telkom can't influence international breakout, so it doesn't matter whether you break out locally or to international, it happens at the same IPC. What I have found is that if there are minor issues on the line, they seem negligent on local but pretty severe on international.

Need more info though to say more :(

What additional information do you require?

I am extremely disappointed in Afrihosts service and product. I still don't believe I am on the business package and that my real time services are being shaped. I sync at 3mb but use 2mb business account and this is my speedtest result? http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/738714625 . This is on capped : http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/737807243 . It has been this way since Sunday and even the support team don't know what is wrong. I was told to put off my modem for an hour or so, which I did for 4 hours and yet still no difference. I am on the verge of cancellation.

If you can drop me a PM, I'll get our team to run some tests with you, but basically I need speedtests, traceroutes as well as comparative tests to analyse. I'll also need your username and IP address to escalate to MTN if we find an issue.

I'm really sorry to hear that you are still battling with this. I asked our Critical Care team to get hold of you to assist. Have they gotten in touch with yet?

Yes they did, and they didn't know what was wrong and suggested I turned off my router for an hour.

So I guess it's a problem that "doesn't exist"? :(
Extremely unhappy.

Turning the router off for an hour is a way to try and get a different IP address assigned to your router to see if this affects performance. A much easier way is to switch ISP accounts for a bit, and then switch back (not using pass through). You could probably do this even using the Telkom Guest Account (guest@telkomadsl password guest)

Let's hope it goes better this time :(

It better get better.
"Speed" was so crap earlier, my email did not even open....

And here are 3 consectutive Speedtest results:

I got gatvol and switched the router off for about 2 hours, and that did not help one bit.

"100% realtime speed", my ass.

Syncing at 8Mb, yet this connection is getting worse by the day.
From 10Mb and no connectivity issues in January 2013, to this current rubbish connection, one year later. Nice...

Nice to see I'm not the only 1 coming to this thread to report a slow day >.<

Currently synced at 4 meg/

Modulation type G.993.2-B
Actual rate (up) 512 kbps
Actual rate (down) 4096 kbps

Yet struggling with YouTube and the likes...Not difficult to see why when I do a speed test :(

Is anyone able to stream anything from Twitch.tv?
For the past few months I haven't been able to watch a thing.
It works perfectly on my Telkom account :/

I think there is something wrong between the MTN Network and the Twitch Servers, but no-one really knows what? People are working on it though

There is definitely something wrong at the moment.
I am on a 6mb uncapped business profile and I cant even complete my speedtest.

Currently struggling at 0.03 according to speedtest.
I opened the account 30mins ago and so far not impressed at all!

Was your previous account fine? Did you perhaps change to afrihost due to slow speeds?

If so - please would you run this and post the results here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool :)

Hi,

Where are you based, I cannot even download DOTA2 updates. It takes 2 hours to download 30MB via Steam. Pathetic speeds. I sued to have a fantastic connection, and since December everything has gone to the dogs.

Sandton area here

I have no problems with twitch.tv at the moment.

Can stream on high with some buffering... and perfectly on medium.

Was broken earlier this week, but it seemed to be a global issue according to reddit reports.

I had a openweb account that I cancelled.
No real issue with it we just had a concurrent account and my buddy cancelled on his side so I had to look for another option.

Will run your app now its just taking a bit longer to download than expected :)

I did.. I then switched to my aunts 100gb capped with Afrihost.. This is going no where and my internet has been unusable for the last 5 days now.

I know this is a horrible experience. I'm confused though whether you feel this is a shaping issue now, or if this is due to the long term line issues you've been experiencing?

When you posted this, looks like we were still seeing peak traffic on the network, and possibly some contention :(
