Thanks, that fixed it. But why does this happen to Afrihost?
I don't think it's unique to us - unless you ran Fix My Line at some point

Thanks, that fixed it. But why does this happen to Afrihost?
Quick question, is it possible to download while gaming on the 2mb business uncapped?
Line. And I know they have to wait for Telkom now, but this long without any feedback from either them or Telkom whatsoever, is ridiculous. I cannot believe we're being forced to accept this level of service in South Africa, as this is the norm.
Afrihost tempts you into having your line with them, as you get the bundle discount, but besides this, there is no good reason to have it with them, as a fault is logged with Telkom anyway, and then I need to start dealing with Telkom myself to get stuff sorted.
Why have the middle man, except saving the money? Maybe people should be warned more explicitly against this before signing up for bundles - transparency is key to good service.
Sorry, did you send this to me on a PM?
Still catching up from the weekend, but will look out for it if you did![]()
Nope, I opened a ticket. It got "resolved". Apparently my exchange, which is VDSL capable, doesn't support anything over 4096kbps.
Side note: support.afrihost.com isn't going to the newer site anymore, so I can't reply to my ticket. I can't find it on the old one either. Is anyone able to get there?
Thanks for this post. This is exactly why we moved away from punitive throttling and shaping, because it's so difficult for a client to figure out how to "get out of jail".
When we researched how overseas ISPs do it, we found that they use the demand based shaping system over punitive measures as it ultimately utilises resources more efficiently, and client ultimately get a better experience.
How would this in any way change what AH sees on Telkom's line checker?Okay, make your your router and adsl line is set to adsl2+, and not gmt
Scratch that. Tried on a different PC and it's working now.Side note: support.afrihost.com isn't going to the newer site anymore, so I can't reply to my ticket. I can't find it on the old one either. Is anyone able to get there?
How would this in any way change what AH sees on Telkom's line checker?
.
Hello, Afrihost guys!
I feel more and more that Afrihost promises more than they could do. From start I had "normal" 1Mbit line, which NEVER EVER worked at proper speed - instead or 120KB/s I had around 30-40. Of course, money was taken in full and I feel cheated: AH should never advert speed they cannot support! Or at least warn that "real speed" is 1/3 of theoretical.
After A LOT of my complains AH employee persuaded me that "business" account has no issues at all. (guess who pays for "business account" happiness!) I said "OK, let's do it 2Mbit/business uncapped". Now I pay ~R500 and know what? NOTHING is changed! Sometime it's more-less acceptable 200KB/s, but long periods I sit again on 30-40KB/s (and even this speed is unstable). What the hell you selling, AH? Do you understand that 10Mbit line CANNOT be shared by 10000 users?? So despite the money we pay, WE DONT RECEIVE proper level of service! And every my complain to AH replied with the same BS: "restart modem"! Guys, are you overwatching "IT crowd"?? My modem is OK, your capacity is not OK! Sit and do math how many users you service and are you able to provide service we paid for. Again, with every speed drop I feel I pay to the wrong guys - you just sit on the same old lines and calm down users, while nothing is changed in quality terms.
What NEXT promise you wanna spread?
PS
My acc: A09176310 - check how many times I write to support - it's too much to name your company "best ISP".
If your line is syncing with d.gmt - the max it will sync it would be 4Mbps - which would influence your line speed reports![]()
g.dmt is 8Mbps.
Oh? Wait... Really? I was always under the impression that the max sync was 4? Well... Apparently you learn (well, change your understanding of) something every day![]()
Yes, it's 8 in the first world, here telkom only go up to 4. I'm stuck on a g.dmt mini-dslam and have asked everyone if I can go faster, TelkomZA included. Answer is no.

Is there something up with the Cape Town IPC again? Getting extremely high latency after exchange? 10MB business uncapped.
