Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Don't get me wrong, I respect how AH can manage a truly DIY setup with their clientzone, they send sms's when you reaching your cap etc, so yes, they are really jacked up, just that I think the whole MTN move was a mistake, speaking as a pre-MTN IS AH client who was happy for many many months.

I feel AH is becoming the new WA.

WA really set themselves from the rest when they first started out. Then they grew, which caused a lot of problems with PR image (passed off the impression that they didn't give a damn) and timely customer support.

AH blew the market away with their R29 capped data. They claimed they were able to do this because they used their advertising budget to subsidise us consumers.

Since then, they have taken over Axxess, although they still keep the management seperate, this still raises the question:

How can Axxess be cheaper than AH when we have cricket stadiums named after the former?

Axxess isn't unshaped, therefore being cheaper :)

AFAIK, when one compares apples with apples (axxess business with AH business OR home with home) they are the same.

EDIT: I'm sure Chevron will disagree.

Usually, but remember - AH Business is unshaped, while Axxess Business isn't :)

I still label AH business as "too good to be true" as they are in a different league completely when one compares their pricing with other ISP's unshaped 24/7 accounts, which leads me to the only logical explanation is that they have to have insane contention ratio's to make it viable.

Unshaped just means all protocols are treated equally, it doesn't mean you are guaranteed line speed 24/7, if one reads the posts in this thread supports my theory.

I like AH and at the same time I loath them, because I have been a client of theirs since 2009, and they have let me down many a time, causing me to loose faith in them. They have so much potential, it's just their uneven/unfair performance depending on where in the country you are and their "always catching up with support staff, always in a perpetual state of training new staff" problem that lets them down. When I left them 2 years ago, they were spinning the same excuse (when one was following the thread), although I never experienced the incompetence of waiting days when communicating with them, maybe I was lucky :)

Afrihost's business and capped accounts have identical priority on their network. It's not too good to be true. I've been on business for 11 months and it's simply unshaped 24/7.

Hearing this brings me one step closer to trusting AH again, especially seeing that you are in the south where there is a lack of bandwidth still.

Dude. If anything. Trust Afrihost Business :D Best in the country in my opinion :P

I recon I'll be cancelling, it takes them 3 days to respond to a support ticket, requesting steps to be taken to troubleshoot, now I wait another 3 days? Not something I'm willing to accept at this cost.

Downloads seem to be ok, but fluctuate between 600-850KB/s - but I find streaming video's in 720p is not possible without buffering.

Then you must have been unaware that Afrihost's service is pretty poor atm and they're frantically trying to hire new support staff? Just PM one of their representatives here or pick up the phone and call them.

Have you tried rebooting your router? What DNS settings are you using? Where are you downloading from?

If they can't offer priority support, they shouldn't be advertising it.

Rebooted the router, DHCP provided DNS - downloading from tweaknews, although, I stated I am fine with the downloads fluctuating, streaming is what I'm having problems with.

Use Google's DNS facility. It makes a big difference to my connection. And forward the usenet ports.

It is the weekend, and maybe most of AH support go home early on Fridays. I've used their support ticket system before without issue.
