Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I have logged a fault through afrihost and Telkom about two weeks ago...I replaced all the POTS filters and the router is connected independently. I don't what I can do further...

Telkom will probably have to come out and test the end to end signal. It may be a portion of the cable that needs to be replaced - but just bear in mind that cabling is a separate division of Telkom and it may not be a quick and easy fix :(

Remember that we purchase from MTN - so we didn't automatically receive discounts. So there was a period when we needed to confirm exactly how much would be passed onto us, and I can promise that every cent was passed on via Capped discounts. So when we run mystery bonuses and discounts - that's coming at our own costs, not out of profits.

We're actually pricing so close to our cost that it's crazy. But we believe in our clients and we know that whenever we put our faith in them, they always come through for us. We know that Uncapped clients didn't get a price reduction, but it's not a saving that was pocketed, because in real terms increased demand means we're paying more than ever for the bandwidth being used. But we're backing our clients again by adding more capacity and we believe our clients will have a better experience, get more bandwidth and value for their money and that will be better for us in the long run.

I would just like to know what happened about this..

Still no sign of any price reduction??

Good question .....

How about it Greg, 15% or so?

Well it seems like most promises come and go with very little action. Sorry to say this but its the truth. The only issue with reducing cost is increasing the amount of new clients, as the service becomes affordable, more will register, then we will be back where we are now, crappy speeds and excuses.

Jip same this side hopefully the guys at Telkom dont decide not to work on Friday... Holding thumbs and all things attached...hopefully it speeds up normal youtube and web.... Afriman anyway of having a hourly update on progress ???

I don't know if that will really help - in my experience it shouldn't take more than an hour or two to bring the IPC up. It also depends on whether there are any additional technical issues. If the IPC is solid, it may be very quick.

As soon as I hear that it's going in or is in - I'll definitely post an update. We may still keep shaping in place for a short while, just to ensure we don't flood the network, but at least real time services and latency should immediately improve. We'll try to make sure we optimise for the best experience and proceed with caution so that we make the best of the upgrade.

Again, a reference to shaping in the Business thread.

This is indeed worrying, false advertising?

I'm just giving you insight into how we plan to ensure that we get best performance. I think going into semantics is not useful. We all know that Business is unshaped, I'm talking about how were managing the overall network.

Ok, but these days we are all edgy as speed issues remain, so we jump when things are maybe not 100% clearly stated.

We are told that Business is unshaped, but it behaves like it is throttled, so some doubt obviously remains and is kinda piqued by mentions of continued shaping in this thread. Grey areas and all.

I didn't say that Business accounts will be shaped. What I was saying is that we'll continue to shape (Uncapped) accounts for a short time, to make sure we open up the network slowly to ensure best performance.

If it came across as anything different, then I do apologise.

Yeah, I hope you don't get sold a hollow IPC, or even worse, an imaginary one.
