Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Serious issues on AH at the moment.
Certain sites not available, especially overseas https... have also been struggling to get into Nedbank internet banking site. Links to my VPS in the US are also non-existent, or extremely slow... currently can only get speeds of 40kB/s (normally speeds of 1MB/s). SSH connections time out, and FTP is even worse.

All so-called "real-time" services struggle to play even the most basic resolutions (240p buffers like crazy).

All this on a so-called "premium" 10MB Business Uncapped account??? :wtf:
...oh yes.... ALL OTHER ISP ACCOUNTS WORK PERFECTLY ON THE SAME LINE - not a Telkom problem :(

MTN DNS issues????? AGAIN :(

Still doesnt change the fact that there ARE issues throughout the country with AH accounts at the moment. Currently, my 10MB Business is choppy on local, and useless on international... cant get more that 400kB/s with a 50 connection multi-threaded download, and even that times-out/gets stuck/slows to nothing and has to be repeatedly restarted.

Thank goodness for being able to resume certain downloads, or I'd be extremely pissed at the moment :(

Clar QOS issue. In the country as a whole, in fact.

Are torrents behaving strangely for anyone else besides me?

Got 3 well-seeded torrents running simultaneously. I should be maxing my 10mb line (1mBps), but instead the rate gets to 700k/800k, then suddenly dips down to around 150k-250k. Then up, then down, then up, then down. Upload behavior matches download. Rises, then falls, exactly the same time that the download does.

Everything else is full speed. NZB's come down at a steady 1mBps. Most video streaming (Netflix, YouTube etc.) is in HD (except Twitch obviously, which only manages 'high' quality, not 'source').

AfriMan: Any P2P 'managing' going on today?

I don't download torrents, but I do watch the odd thing via P2P streaming services. I see the same type of behaviour since yesterday - streams that should be maxing out my 4mb line as they buffer, but instead spiking at a maximum of about 1.5mb/s and thus being totally unwatchable. So much for the 'premium' business uncapped experience.

Can not get mail from telkom

I see someone posted later that this might be DNS issue. Which DNS settings are you using?

Also, if you're still experiencing this, please try to telnet into the mailbox and run traceroutes to telkom.co.za. You can post the results or PM them to me.

Line is still working perfectly since the fix.
Downloaded 24.30GB so far today and still going strong, even with the downloads in the background, I can browse with no issues, watch Youtube vids at 720p, etc.

Awesome - really hoping Telkom did something to permanently resolve this for you :)

There's no shaping at all going on with Business. As far as I can see, demand was fairly OK, so we shouldn't have seen much contention which could cause "shaping like' symptoms.

Did you run any diagnostics to see if anything was happening in your local area?

I open a ticket on Saturday when I changed the DNS to google everything is working

Very strange that you're having troubles with this :(
Could you paste the URL here to see if others can test it out?

I see we're still waiting for some feedback on MTN with this.

If we manage your line we can log faults for you and generally manage it for you :)

I signed up for a static IP but now am being told that I must have a router that supports l2tp. To be fair that's not really my understanding of a static address but rather a vpn but nonetheless... I asked support to help me set up my netgear dgn4000 router for this and they said they didn't know how to... Any ideas?
