The PM I sent you, did you see it?![]()
Still going through my PM's from the weekend. I'll definitely reply before lunch

The PM I sent you, did you see it?![]()
I see you haven't been following this thread for very long. There have been many cases where AH have blamed the Telkom, while the issue is with AH themselves. Most of the time changing to another ISP fixes the "Telkom issues" AH likes to complain about.
Also people have been complaining about streaming performance for months yet the situation isn't any better.
Just my 2 cents on all the streaming issues some people are currently having on afrihost. As far as I can tell most traffic people are having trouble with is coming from the US. After testing with both afrihost free account and and web africa business account, I saw that most traffic on the afrihost network routes over level3(1st tier ISP US) in the US. Web Africa routes over Cogent(another 1st tier ISP US). A lot of youtube videos are cached in SA, but new stuff takes time to actually reach the caching server in SA.
I know there was an issue earlier this year in America where the 1st tier ISP's wanted more money for peering, especially for video streaming. I know netflix uses Cogent. That might be why some people are having trouble with international streaming, while local remains fine.
AfriMan what's up with the high latency spikes?
Good to know, this is the first I am hearing about this. But the different CDN's sounds very plausible. Maybe something we can find out more about![]()
Suddenly I can no longer connect to any sopcast channels. This has only started happening since today. Something is definitely wrong.
I just tried sopcast on vodacom's cellular network and it is working, so there's definitely a problem with afrihost's network.
Streaming was impossible for me too earlier on certain sites. Latency seemed fine, Youtube worked and browsing was snappy as usual, so I don't know what was up. A friend of mine tested the stream with Mweb and had no problem.

I'd have to check out the specific services giving problems. Can you give me a few links to test?
They seem to be working now. Yesterday evening to late night they couldn't stream for more than 5 seconds without buffering.
Posting sports streaming links is a bannable offense on most forums, so I think anyone would be hesitant to do so. I'll PM you rather.
I have just put in my cancellation and it said effective 30 September? I thought Afrihost did not have a calendar month notice period?
Sorry Afrihost, I stuck around as long as I could. Was always hopeful you guys would fix the streaming issues but I eventually got tired of my family moaning "Dad, why isn't Netflix working again". On WebAfrica now and well - they are watching Netflix.
I even had the family on board the last few months asking them to be patient while you guys sorted out the problems. All have lost hope now.
I got a PM from one of the rep's offering some discount/free period if I took part in some test or another. I responded but never got anything back. That was my last glimmer of hope.
And no - not a line issue. Or a firewall issue. Or anything else except an Afrihost issue. Web Africa seem to be handling Netflix just fine on the exact same infrastructure. Only change has been a username and password on my router.
Also lost interest in posting my moans on this thread as they were generally ignored. Oh well...
I haven't done a speed test for a while but noticed lag while streaming. Just did a speed test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 4964 kbps (620.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 521 kbps (65.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 123 ms

That's with local server. I've never had Latency that high, normally my Latency is around 20ms at most.
I'm rocking on Netlfix with no problems at the moment, last night was bad but then again I was on a lower package.
That's definitely worrying for local latency. Could you post a full trace route so I can see where the latency comes in?

Did a speed test now and the latency is back down to around 22.

So no idea. I'll try keep testing to see if latency changes.
