Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

We hit page 666 of this thread. Coincidence... I THINK NOT!!!
Jokes aside...

My bet is that Afrihost's "amazing" MTN network couldn't handle all those iOS 8 updates all at once and therefore they decided to throttle the crap out of everyone just to be "safe".
I'm pretty sure that standard practice dictates that they should notify their clients of such action so as to keep them in the loop but I suppose that would be asking too much of AH. So much for a "Network Status" being "Updated Hourly".

Hi Afriman

So looks like everything is working 100% again, twitch included.

I'm just wondering..I've already asked afrihost to move my line back to telkom and to cancel my afrihost account (did this the beginning of the month). Let's say I want to stay with you guys (seeing that twitch works)...can these cancellations just be reverted in a way? I still want to do some extensive testing during this coming weekend before I make my final decision though

WTH??? Everything is stuffed this morning. Getting 4mb speeds on a 8mb business uncapped???

EDIT: Tested on my Telkom account and I get almost 7mbs?

Please explain?

Yeah, back to what it was yesterday 1m speed on my 10m account. Looks like it only went full speed between 00:30 and 6 this morning.

Morning All

I see there are about 4 pages of comments since last night, so I don't think I can get to all of them, I'll pick up what I can but I think the bulk of the comments relate to slow throughput on the network.

The iOS8 update seemed to pick up around 7pm last night when it was released and traffic has steadily increased since the. We're still seeing a steady stream of traffic downloading the update and we're also expecting this to consume a similar traffic stream over the next couple of days, judging by past experience.

We're rolling out some updates and changes in the next few hours that is going to hopefully improve our network management (aside from general changes we had already planned) and we're hoping to see improvement shortly.

So for now, I just want to assure everyone that we are absolutely aware of the issues and we are monitoring very closely to provide the very best overall experience while Apple does their thing.

You can cancel your cancellation (un-cancel) in ClientZone if the cancellation has not taken effect yet :)

So basically: "We can't handle Apple's iOS8 update so you all get throttled without warning/being informed so as to provide the very best overall experience."
Pathetic.

Why can other ISPs handle the update just fine and you can't?

To put it in plain and simple English: I am paying for a 10MB ADSL line and a supposed "unshaped unmetered" 6MB Business Uncapped package and, as your website states, "Unshaped Business Bandwidth".

All I want is what I pay for.

Lately it has been like paying for a Porsche GT2 RS and riding around everywhere at 40kmh.......

Yup, so much for paying extra for a BUSINESS account. My Telkom account is flying along, good latency and very stable speeds. AH is down to less than 50% now.

@AfriGuy: At least admit the damn problem and put a network notice up on your site.

Basically they don't have sufficient IPC capacity...period

+1

A real man (or in this case, an ethical company) wouldn't be afraid to admit he is wrong/he messed up.
Hiding the facts only makes you look more incompetent/untrustworthy Afrihost. You're trying to keep customers by lying to/keeping the truth from them when simply admitting the facts would probably earn you more respect and support.

Amazing how they do the so called changes to the network after a issue, surely from past experience they would have known there could be strain on the network and made provisions. I also agree that there are still serious issues on this network, were all the IPC upgrades ever completed? Then we get crap speeds, online support is offline, you cannot get through on the phone, and their is no one from Afrihost on these forums. What happened to the 24/7 support that is advertised for the business product?

Am i the only one on AHB who doesnt have speed issues?

My account is still limited to 10% of the line speed.
