Axxess is fine... no problem here... and they are MTN backbone.

2 iDevices here being updated and I can stream at 720p at the same time.
Same line, same exchange, same backbone as Afrihost... yet on Afrihost CAPPED I cannot do anything and speedtest is maxing at 1Mbs on an 8Mbs line.
I cannot remember when last I could stream 720p on this AH capped account... if at all.

I can confirm this. I just tested my Axxess Free account, and the speed is full.

I'm sorry.... did AH claim the issue was with MTN? hmmmmmmmmm..... strange how one section works and the other doesn't?

Whatever the reason, it should NOT be our problem. Our accounts should have priority and not limited to a 1Mb snail-pace with spikes, high latency and packet loss. Surely, if the iOS updates are causing the increase in demand, then shape the hell out of it, like they do with P2P. You cannot expect high paying clients to wait it out while you suck on your thumb and bury your head in the sand.... and this isn't the first time.

If you want to charge and take a premium from clients, then you MUST deliver at ALL TIMES on the so-called "guarantee" you have stipulated in the description of the service offered. You can't come along and change the rules to suit YOUR needs at the expense of others. In ANY other form of business this is a breach of contract, and the provider should be penalised, in favour of the client through some form of compensation, or prompt restoration of service. HELL, even Telkom gives you a small token off on your bill for a delayed disruption of service - that says a lot.

My thoughts exactly.
I was also thinking about the Telkom credit for delayed disruption of service earlier so kudos for bringing it up.

Here is mine... not the free 1GB but some Axxess capped data.

This is WITH iUpdates running (iPad iOS8 and xCode on Hackintosh) AND a youtube video stream;

I was just sent the same BS, generic response for my ticket I logged with support yesterday:

Good Day

I trust you are well

Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

We are reporting increased DSL demand throughout the country, possibly as a result of new Apple iOS updates released late last night.

We will be optimising our network and making changes where applicable to provide the best possible internet experience to clients while traffic demand remains high.

We apologise to affected clients and would like to assure them that we will continue to monitor and work towards improving their overall experience

For any further assistance please contact us.

It still tells me nothing about when it will be resolved. WTF????
Optimising???? WTF??? This confirms that they are shaping/limiting/"managing" ALL ACCOUNTS.
W H A T - T H E - F O O O O K ? ? ? ? ? ?

How about you stop limiting my speed and give me - and all others affected - what we pay for?

most of the country have gone to sleep, so speeds are back to what they should be.

The problem we have with an over-contended service is that Afrihost's guarantees and assurances about not shaping the business accounts still holds water. But the effects of insufficient bandwidth provision is every bit as bad as severe shaping, and even worse since it effects non-p2p and real-time protocols just as badly as the usual culprits. The cynic in me does not believe this is an overnight IOS-induced glitch, but rather a planned business strategy that maintains the "good story" while implementing a form of covert shaping to these business accounts (as Axxess have transparently done). I really hope this is not the case, but I don't know how long I can ward off my cynical side with the cancellation cut-off date looming.

02h30 AM. 4 Meg line running at 2 Meg ....

Quite frankly, I am not well, I am not interested in your problems, and I am pisssssssssssed ........

I can swallow your ***** when you explain why I can only get 75% of my line speed, but when we get to 50%, I get REALLY annoyed.

Keep the excuses, keep the BS, just be SURE I get full speed by the end of the day along with the rest of these good people,

International at 4:22am

Full line speed.

Back to capacity issues it seems.

Ping still buggered, but it was explained in a previous post what is happening there.

Good morning....

Today, like yesterday, we all start with full speed again.
Wait until just after 08:00... the speeds will get progressively worse, until, once again, we will be back to 10% of our line speed.

http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2707705769.png

I have said this before, and I'll say it again... AH is using the same shaping protocol / dynamic shaper they use on the Home Uncapped - now across ALL their accounts. How else do you explain the crappy speeds from exactly 08:00 till 02:00 in the morning? This is confirmed by all the posts and tests in this thread, and the other AH threads (Capped / Home Uncapped).

WAKE UP! It's going to be a "fightingly" frustrating day, and an even worse weekend on the throughput side :(

You do know that "what you pay for" is less than how much it costs to provide the service right?

You do know that "what you pay for" is less than how much it costs to provide the service right?

....and your point is?
That, once again, is NOT our problem... if you cannot provide a service, then don't sell it!
Don't "guarantee" something as unshaped and unrestricted, then provide the opposite, and NOT expect to be called out on it.
AH is not a small company, and MTN is even bigger... they have more than enough bandwidth and need to learn how t manage it better. You cannot blame an iOS update for the main cause of network failure. As someone mentioned before, what's going to happen when Android releases their next update????

Or are you saying we should all bend over and just take, coz the poor ISP is making a loss?
....don't believe all the PRO-ISP propaganda you read... they make more than enough. They need to deliver on their promise/guarantee - that is why people buy a Business Uncapped product, and that is what we ALL expect.... definitely NOT 10% of our paid for throughput, consistently for 20 hours a day - this is exactly the reason I cancelled my Home Uncapped in June, after months of being strung along waiting for IPC upgrades, which didn't even make a dent in the overall performance.

NO NO NO.... I refuse to take it up the butt without even so much as a whimper :p

I also just got hit with the "iO8 is the problem" reply to my log:

1) Log a support ticket on the 12th of Sept about slow speeds, timeouts, problems with streaming
2) Asked a couple of times by support to supply tracert and ping screendumps which was done.
3) iO8 gets released 5 days after my problem starts
4) Get the following reply from support:

Pure Internet Joy!

5) No internet joy!

So a problem that started long before iO8 also gets blamed on it.
Nice way of treating your business users, total lack of transparency and support.
I'm stuck with 280p and maybe 480p for a few seconds in Netflix atm.

And we are back to speed this morning.
Seemingly, ALL the IOS updates except for mine, we done a few hours ago .....

Whatever the story, please lets keep it going like it is now .... at full speed.

Nope... this is what happened yesterday morning, too. Wait till 08:00... the speeds will progressively get worse, with some of us (like me) being clamped to 10% of throughput at EXACTLY that time.

On no ....

I swear, if my account is snot klapped like yours, I will move on.
I have been quite happy, minus the odd speedhump, and am hoping this is a speed hump .... for both of us.
