I have been pointing that out for the last 4 months in Cape Town. Now it seems that it is affecting ALL regions.... It's ALWAYS hop 3.... and that is the IPC link onto MTN's network.

Only proves the point that the network is over-sold.... does anyone not find it strange that this is hot on the heels of new mobile specials and pricing from MTN??????

We are reporting increased DSL demand throughout the country, possibly as a result of new Apple iOS updates released late last night blah blah blah capacity blah blah blah optimising our network blah blah blah to provide the best possible internet experience to clients blah blah blah

This "speed" has been the norm here by us since yesterday morning, before this general balls up happened with your so-called iOS bandwidth sucking monster that is supposedly to blame.

For once, just tell us the truth and stop hiding behind excuses.
No other ISP's are having issues with this iOS download that AH is making the scapegoat.

If you don't want to tell us what the issue is, give me a 50% discount on this month's bill, and I will stop moaning about the "premium" Business Uncapped I am paying for.

And from your very own small print on the Business DSL page on your website:

This congestion probably has more to do with the MTN backbone than only Arihost, seeing as a lot of on apple devices are probably downloading the update through 3G instead of adsl. This is just a guess though. Would be interesting to see what speeds people are getting on their mobile devices currently.

Axxess is fine... no problem here... and they are MTN backbone.

2 iDevices here being updated and I can stream at 720p at the same time.
Same line, same exchange, same backbone as Afrihost... yet on Afrihost CAPPED I cannot do anything and speedtest is maxing at 1Mbs on an 8Mbs line.
I cannot remember when last I could stream 720p on this AH capped account... if at all.

Whatever the reason, it should NOT be our problem. Our accounts should have priority and not limited to a 1Mb snail-pace with spikes, high latency and packet loss. Surely, if the iOS updates are causing the increase in demand, then shape the hell out of it, like they do with P2P. You cannot expect high paying clients to wait it out while you suck on your thumb and bury your head in the sand.... and this isn't the first time.

If you want to charge and take a premium from clients, then you MUST deliver at ALL TIMES on the so-called "guarantee" you have stipulated in the description of the service offered. You can't come along and change the rules to suit YOUR needs at the expense of others. In ANY other form of business this is a breach of contract, and the provider should be penalised, in favour of the client through some form of compensation, or prompt restoration of service. HELL, even Telkom gives you a small token off on your bill for a delayed disruption of service - that says a lot.
