This is getting ridiculous now.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3771427354

Yesterday I was getting half the speed now I'm not even getting that. 1.2mbps on 6mbps account.

As we are on the Premium shouldn't we be getting priority over everything else including the Apple IOS Update?

Oh just you wait:

that was my 6mb account the other night.

Thankfully things are much much better today for me.

However I'll only jump for joy once we pass the peak time tests.

I am now rate limited to 5 % of my 20mbps account.

The excuses are getting really thin, so thin I think many are seeing through them.

If this continues over the weekend where I'll be doing lot more streaming. I'm going to be supremely pissed off.

Afriman, why does Apple IOS update have priority over Business Premium accounts?

He claims in the capped thread a decision was made to not shape the apple downloads as this would have made things worse.

What the &*($@*&@*#((*& Afrihost?!?!?!

I'm getting the following error on my account when going to any website:

View attachment 149996

The address always changes to 196.30.26.166:443 which resolves to capexceeded.mtnbusiness.co.za.

How does a uncapped account go over it's cap?

I think this post from Wednesday might be the smoking gun in this scenario... exactly whose cap was exceeded? And why were uncapped accounts briefly hitting this on Wednesday?

What was the official explanation for this @Freakboy?

Telkom should just 1/2 the IPC costs instead of doing a line speed upgrade again. Will give the ISPs some air en Telkom time to sort the mess with some of their exchanges out.

The only time an Uncapped account can see this is when we haven't allocated data for the month. Otherwise the client has an unlimited data link available at all times :(

We've been pushing for lower IPC costs for a long time. I think Gian covered it in his address to the MyBB conference last year :(

It's not that the update has priority, it just that the demand for the bandwidth was very excessive on both Capped and Uncapped accounts, increasing overall demand significantly.

Just saying sorry this happens is certainly not acceptable. Afrihost seems keen on selling a product they know cannot deliver what they advertise. If this was just a once off occurrence it could be explained away, but the exact same thing happened on the previous IOS update as well if I remember correctly. It did happen to all ISP's at the time, but I do not see them struggling like this a second time.

Why was afrihost not prepared for this, and as far as I can remember this was exactly when the home uncapped issues started, and it was never finally resolved.

Did you'll not anticipate the extra demand?

Do you think it will be all sorted by the weekend?

This was a precursor to increased demand on the previous Apple Update, though in previous years we've seen the usage subside after a day or so. It also coincided last year with Telkom's rollout of line upgrades and we're really hoping that we won't have anything similar dropped on us just yet. However there is talk of scrapping 2Mbps lines and upgrading all lower speeds to 4Mbps. If that happens, it will be a difficult time for pretty much all ISPs :(

We did anticipate the demand, however there is now way to simply add more capacity at such short notice, and it's an equally long process to decommission unused IPC. It would effectively amount to millions of rands of additional costs, and in any case it's would simply not be practical :(

So how long do you expect this to continue for? Do you expect us to get our speeds back by tomorrow?
