Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

And now on top of this "we do not throttle Business accounts" crap and the utter uselessness of the ADSL line for the last 7 days due to the "non-throttling" and the mythical iOS8 monster, we just got a phonecall from Hellscum saying the ADSL service will be disrupted for the next 48 hours due to "maintenance".

Pure Internet Joy, my ass........

Android updates are soon to be released. At least it's a 100 meg so it might not hurt the network :-)

Samsung Knox requested an update today on my phone. It is 100 megabytes.
Android Kitkat OS Upgrade usually round 1 gig last time around.

Thanks, always best to inform the right peeps though :)

Hi AfriGuy,

What I do not understand is why only my Afrihost 10Mbps Business Uncapped account seems to be affected. See results below:

Afrihost Capped 5GB:

Same local CT server and done 3 minutes apart. I have done this comparison a couple of times with my WebAfrica Uncapped account as well with the same results - the AH Business Uncapped rarely reach above 1024kbps while I get between 4500 and 8500kbps on the AH Capped and WA Uncapped depending on the time of day.

AH support first said it was due to the iOS update and then after requesting my tracert results, said it looked normal?

I have only used 30GB on my uncapped account so far this month and at this stage my AH support email queries are being met with silence - Could you please assist?

Thanks,
Ben.

Only achieving package speed (8Mb/s) after midnight until 8am is really not acceptable. So I think it is cancellation time for me. Think I will try some capped data from next month. Lots of good deals out there. Other ISPs, unlike Afrihost, have built lower IPC costs into their current pricing. Since my line is 10Mb/s I will probably get a much better experience at a lower overall cost.

Maybe they spend all the money for the extra IPC capacity on the new building they build 200m away from my office in Rivonia?

Or hiring a crap load of call centre okes to field all the unnecessary calls of an oversubscribed network.

My latency had improved quite a bit before 08:00... it was as good as it was when I signed up at the end of last year, but now worse than normal

BEFORE 08:00
CT 9ms
JHB 28ms
INT 140ms

AFTER 08:00
CT 15ms
JHB 35ms
INT 154ms

....AND.... the speeds are almost full locally, but international are limited to 2.5Mb from 08:00 (7Mb before 08:00).

When will this get fixed?
Are we gonna get strung along for 2 months waiting for IPC that didnt make a dent, like the Home Uncapped was in April?
Why is my ticket STILL open with no response in 5 days (but still sms me to rate the "service" - what a joke)

By the way, your "support" email support at afrihost dot COM does not work. My emails responding to Keenan keep getting rejected for an unknown reason.... How about you rate that?

The time for action is now... I don't know how a business can run in this manner.... surely there must be some form of urgency? AH has failed to deliver on their own "guarantee" for Business Uncapped.

I wonder AH, if the roles were reversed and it was AH suffering because of issues with their supplier (MTN/whoever), would they not expect it to be resolved within at least a day? This is now becoming a FAIRY TALE.

I have said it before in a previous post - In all my over 8 years with ADSL, I have never had to babysit my connectivity as much as my AH accounts in the last 5 months.

Last night my speeds were fluctuating between 30-50% line speed before 11pm, checked the average download speed this morning and it downloaded near full line speed...So there must be some sort of throttling if not shaping involved here...one more month till I find a suitable ISP and leave AH, I have had enough, as for your critical care department, they are not up to the standard, with regards to yesterdays high latency this is the mail I receive from them , "Thank you for sending this information through to us. From my understanding as the Iphone updates settle down then systems should return to normal. However having said this please could you keep monitoring it and sending in your test results."I don't have the time nor the patience to be doing AH support...

Hi Guys

We saw some improvement yesterday overall, but speeds were still not where they should be for many clients. We rolled out some changes yesterday evening and we are monitoring the effects today to see if they give the improvement we expect on overall traffic management on the network.

We'll keep tweaking this through the day, now that major updates are in place. It's still early in the day but we've already seen some improvement and our own tests in the North are returning much better speeds.

I'm still replying to all the PM's I've received from many of you. If I haven't addressed your post, please PM me so I can make sure you get assistance if it's not related to the general throughput issues.

AH Support this morning replied that they stabilised my Telkom line and recreated my port - this after explaining that I get these slow results only on the AH Business Uncapped account... I thought this was clearly an indication that this is not a line fault.

Anyway - repeated the tests, same results this morning so round and round we go...

Results should be better this morning from the tests we're seeing. Have you tested with another network to confirm that it's only on our network that you get the poor speeds today (might not have been the case previously)?

It's only AH that's slow.... international speeds are at about 40% on AH, and full on all my other ISP accounts (VOX, Telkom, MWEB, WA, Axxess).

As stated in my previous reply from last night here - Only Afrihost Business Uncapped is slow. My Afrihost Capped and WebAfrica Home Uncapped are both running 4-6 times faster.

Been like that consistently for the past 5 days. AH Support has no answers for me so I cancelled my AH account this morning and migrated my existing WebAfrica Home Uncapped to a WebAfrica Business Uncapped - running at full speed again (and it is only R2 more per month).

Sorry to hear that you've decided to leave us. I know we haven't made it easy for you in the last few days, and I promise we're doing everything possible to be better.

If you do decide to change your mind, I'd be happy to chat further with you on PM. Otherwise I sincerely wish you all the best :)
