Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

... damn dude.. I was basically pointing out that since your torrents are fine and your speed test isn't, that symptom must be explainable. It just looked to me that the afri representative missed it. No need to get sarcastic, sorry for putting in my 2c worth

I know that it's explainable because it indicated a latency problem, while throughput itself is actually fine (speedtest notwithstanding because it's not always accurate for every ISP). Your input was valued, but you really just stated the obvious.

Really sorry about this, I know it's far from ideal.
We're doing everything we can to normalise services.

As far as you know, has Afrihost been working to make sure they're not affected by the 512k bug?

Just saw this on another ISP feedback thread :

"Currently when shaped, it only applies to large downloads and released at midnight - if you want gaming, streaming, browsing, VPN (unshaped at all times as standard) and then p2p and nntp unshaped and at this price then I'm afraid it's simply not possible at this point in time. No ISP does that. In fact no ISP offers what we do in any case at these prices. No throttling, no deprioritising of all services, no streaming shaping, browsing and gaming shaping, and all day every day."

So can we assume that business accounts are shaped or throttled to some extent?
I know it's a different ISP but they seemed so positive that no other ISP does that, wondering if AH does that and lies to us about it...

Afrihost for some reason has been slow or lag i am on the 2mb uncapped unshaped business and find the net extreme slow my latency is like 60ms

**** you

This is worse than my experience with Telkom

Latency should be returning to normal in the North and South regions, we're still awaiting some final feedback for the increased latency in the East.
Could you guys keep testing please?

Looks a bit better than your last tests.
We're still waiting for some changes to go through for the East IPC, which serves Durban - so things can only improve from here.

So can we assume that business accounts are shaped or throttled to some extent?
I know it's a different ISP but they seemed so positive that no other ISP does that, wondering if AH does that and lies to us about it...

They're probably not shaping when you have prioritisation turned off in the control panel, although as more people buy the business accounts to get past the severe shaping on regular capped products more people are contending for the unshaped data, which is why so many uncapped users see shaping to such an extent that downloads are down to 18% line speed.

Nope, Business and Capped accounts won't be shaped.

Better. Youtube videos at 720p still buffer a lot, but I expect this to be fixed later.

Seems to be jumping around a lot, and I hope that 2nd hop was because you were downloading :(
Lets give it some time, keep me posted on how things go.

Speeds in Cape Town are still horrible. Any tests outside Cape Town (JHB / INTENATIONAL) are clamped at 2Mb on a 10Mb line and account. 30 minutes ago, all speed tests were limited to 1.5Mb.

So much for the so-called fixes :(

Hi,

Any feedback on when the network will be back to the proper speeds, all these promises that things are being done, but nothing seems to be helping with the crap speeds?

I'm afraid I don't have an ETR.
We're monitoring and making tweaks constantly to provide the best experience for everyone. Changes today have seen some positive results. I'm sure if won't be much longer now.
