Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Good Morning

I just wanted to thank everyone for their patience so far. It seems like Saturday saw some improvement and it looks like speeds improved for a lot of people over Sunday. The real test will be when Business demand hits peak this morning, which is pretty much now.

We also have more pending network management software updates pending for today or tomorrow, so when those changes take effect, we also expect to see some improvement.

I know that many of you have been asked to be patient, and I just want to say that I truly appreciate it. I know it's not easy and I promise that we are not hiding any information from you. There is no hidden network problem or greater flaw in the system, this is purely a demand issue, and we are doing whatever we can to stabilise and improve experience as much as possible. Demand has already stabilised somewhat according to what we've predicted and we're hoping this will continue until we return to the normal levels prior to Wednesday's Apple OS release.

There is no way the demand for the Apple update can still be this high. My international speed is between 25% -50% the speed I should be getting. Can I pay Afrihost 25% of what I usually pay?

Well Durban IPC is borked this morning

I think the iOS updates caused the initial spike. I've requested some urgent feedback for you guys on this.
I'm really sorry about this :(

Not cool at all, definitely an issue on our end here as the latency spikes up when reaching our network :(
I'm awaiting some further feedback from our team to see how this is being addressed.

What I cant understand is why business accounts are supposed to be shaped last, but we always seem to be in the same boat as everyone else when there is high demand. May as well not bother with a business account at all!

I fully understand that you're not happy seeing slower speeds, I can promise you this isn't any form of shaping.
The increase in demand across our network means that a lot of clients are contending for data, resulting in slower speeds :(

Yes I understand, what I am saying is that business accounts pay a premium, so home services should be shaped while business accounts are not contended. The fact that you are either A) shaping everyone or B) not shaping anyone is the issue, the result should be C) Home users shaped, while business remains unshaped. Otherwise whats the point of the business service? May as well pay less and be on a home account.

So after some respite over the weekend, poor speeds are back.

So what is the ETA on this demand issue? Its been like this since Wednesday Evening and we are soon approaching a week. Our companies 40mbps vdsl connection is running under 1mbps and is completely unusable for our web development staff of 30 people.

I've had to get a temporary capped account from OpenWeb. The max speed I'm getting is about 15mbps, which is not perfect but at least better than my under a 1mbps business connection I currently have with Afrihost.

Business is not shaped. There is just insufficient bandwidth capacity to go around. In other words, it has been oversold. The end result is similar, though. Its like renting your dream holiday villa and when you arrive there, find you have to share it with another family.

I think we all know this, its the continual denial that is irritating people, and there is never a mention of any compensation to users who are getting screwed because of this. Not all of us can afford to have backup accounts.

Home Uncapped is being shaped, the reason you're seeing slow speeds isn't because of shaping but because a lot or clients are contending for data at the same time - causing a general slow down.

I don't think we've denied that the issue is there, we know the experience for our clients isn't up there :(

We're reviewing some traffic patterns this morning to see where the demand can be eased. This is getting our full attention.

Good speeds today

Thank you Afriman, my download speed has been exceptional so far today - sometimes even more than what I pay for - keep it up :D.
