Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

My line is absolutely crawling. I will join those with their pitch forks out and we need this resolved.

Failing which, a move to another ISP is looking more on the cards.

My Business account came to an end on Tues night.
On Web Africa Home Uncapped at the mo. Downloading the Windows 10 preview and streaming Netflix at the same time. Wow.

So I noticed the issue with my account around 1pm and the time at the moment is 22h41 and the line is crawling around 150Kbps on a 10mbps account, guess nearly all the AH customers in the East decided to stay at home today and download/stream for 10 hours and counting...you really expect me to buy that excuse Afriman/Afriguy....

As I said before all those opportunities have passed and I really tried to get in touch with "the right people" through every avenue possible. It was simply not possible. I have the emails and most of the call recordings available should you be interested but again - only on this forum.

You are welcome to PM me for more information but I can assure you that I will post any messages on this forum.

If you change your mind, my offer still stands.

My mind is very made up and is not going to change. All I am asking for is a time and a date to meet face to face with Gian. You imply that this is possible but as usual fail to deliver.

If you're not going to change your mind, at least stop being obtuse if you really believe you're just going to get nowhere and stop trying to force Afriguy's hand.

Take the man up on his offer and hold him to his word to try help you - if he can't get you a date with Gian then that's not his fault - he's an employee, not Gian's boss.

Your obstinance is not helping your case and in nowhere in the world is it ever company policy for the middle management of a corporation, enterprise or SME to interface with their customers (that you're getting the opportunity to talk to a manager is already unusual). That's the job of first-and-second level and technical support in the case of an ISP, having the CEO involved is a rare occurrence and almost always done as a publicity stunt to show that a particular company cares somewhat about you.

There are rare examples like ranger, Shuhei Yoshida, Reggie Fils-Aime or Jeff Bezos that are simply the needle in a haystack, one on a million. Expecting that level of interaction and support from a CEO who just sold the controlling stake of his company to MTN, a much larger company that borders on being a conglomerate, is silly. It'd be nice, but it simply won't happen. You'll have a better chance of taking your grievances to the media.

Honestly, after seeing that he was last active on Twitter in June and has over six thousand followers, I don't blame him for wanting to not deal directly with customers anymore. Either that's his own wish, or a request from the company's majority stakeholder.

I get your point here, but I really don't think Gian is making himself scarce or avoiding clients. The truth is that with the move to new offices, new products and opportunities, he is a very busy guy. I don't think you become IT personality of the year by sitting at your desk. I think he would love to meet as many clients face to face as he could, because he is truly dedicated to personal service. When he is in the office, I've seen him MANY times stop to greet clients in our walk-in centre and thank them for their support.

Thats quite the degraded service then! I'm not even managing 100KB/s on capped or business uncapped accounts. As posted in the Capped Forum:

Amazing how every ISP I trial of late is better than Afrihost currently. I can't handle this much longer and will have to move my company and customers off AH and seek accounts elsewhere. Afriman, Afriguy it's sad to say that after 2 years and 8 months of being a happy customer 99% of the time you are about to lose 1.8TB of capped accounts, 24 Business Uncapped Accounts and 14 Uncapped Accounts and 20-odd Mobile Accounts.

We definitely don't want to lose valuable clients. I can promise that whatever can be done right now is being done and we're not sparing expenses. If it comes to upgrading our capacity, that will be determined by our technical director and I am sure he will push for the fastest turnaround. But either way the important thing is to focus on what can be achieved right now :(

I'm on standby this week and left the 3G dongle at the office, dumb as hell I know ... Hope it shapes up later tonite.

That sucks. I know we're definitely trying to improve overall performance. I'm seeing some improvement on my home connection, so hopefully it will continue to improve.

As mentioned, an increase in demand can degrade some services. While this may feel like shaping, it's not.

If it feels like shaping and smells like shaping then it normally is shaping... But anyway who am I, just a normal paying customer seeing the blatant obvious. Anyways no need for me to come on here and blabber on. Your whole team is looking into this right...

I know we're not great at the moment, but I promise improving our DSL performance is our highest priority and I believe we will find a solution to this. We have some very smart people from Afrihost, MTN and other external experts putting their heads together and I'm sure that they will find the best solution.

Contention and shaping feel very similar. But one is a wilful policy curbing traffic while the other is a by-product of demand vs available resources. I agree, the experience may reduce that to semantics, but the intention behind each is very different and an important distinction.

Demand does tend to aggregate at certain times, like traffic. It may be hard as an individual to imagine why people suddenly run the same service or join the same queue, but when you look at it from an overall perspective, there are definitely trends that come out showing mass behaviour at certain times, it's just the scale that's perhaps hard to understand until you see how the numbers play out.

GIVE ME WHAT I PAY FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough excuses.

Last night and earlier this morning the line was perfect. Was running at 5.4-5.6MB until an hour ago, and now sitting with total **** once again.

This is pure bull****. Please go give whoever is "working on the problem to give your customers the best experience" a swift kick in the nuts from me.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to agree with you. At about midnight last night my line was running at full speeds, but come morning, it has slowed down to about half of what it should be. This has been the case for the past few weeks now, where my line would work perfectly after midnight, and tank during the day. Frankly, this is starting to feel a hell of a lot like throttling (or shaping, or contention, or whatever you want to call it), as I don't seem to experience these issues on other ISP accounts. I have complained about poor international speeds in the past, but lately local speeds haven't been faring much better.

Afrihost, please sort this out. Ever since the iOS fiasco, your services just haven't been the same.

I feel like I have regular uncapped but paying for business, there's nothing premium about this service.

This is my third time with Afrihost . Afrihost is a company of boom-bust . You guys must understand that Afriman/Afriguy/Afridog are low level employs which are doing their best. But they REALLY can't do much . This is a waste of time to write angry posts on they forum . The most important thing is never never never let any ISP hanle your line and just move to a better ISP . Six months down the line your better ISP might not be that good so you keep on moving. There is always a better ISP at any given time .

Sorry we've let you down :( I know this is extremely frustrating, I'm sure speeds will return to what you're used to soon.
