Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Hosting has been relativity good and I cant really complain but this was on I.S infrastructure, We moved to a new server at the beginning of the month which I presume is MTN based and not I.S based. I'm hoping this new server will have better up time but seeing its not even a month worries me. but we will see. I.S's shared firewall services is a nightmare, always issues effecting everyone.
My next resort will be hosting everything via Dimension Data cloud Services.

Our Gallo Manor Data Center should soon be seeing an improvement in stability over the coming weeks, so I'm certainly hoping you'll give it a try before you opt for another provider. :)

Mumble shows a 90% loss and counter-strike won't even put me in a server, local or international.

Could you quickly send me a PM with your ADSL username.

Okay sure. Will do next version :)

I decided to remove it from the taskbar, in order to let it become less distracting. Should I bring it back?

Z

Well, maybe implement minimize to system tray? That way I won't lose it :D

I don't see the reason for having regional entry's in the Status Log seeing as the status only changes once it has reached the stage that it effects the network nationally, but still it has been updated, thanks for that. I am sure it is, in no small part, due to the Afrigeeks pressurising management to update it and I for one am pleased to see some action being taken. The Afrigeeks are not totally toothless :)

I am still fuming over this mornings breakdown in diplomacy, but feel a lot better now that I know management has acknowledged, publicly, that the South has an issue and that other regions are also starting to experience it.

Things were said... Potted plants were thrown... I do think valid points were raised, and we can all take away important lessons from this morning.

To be honest, all regions have been experiencing the same issue, but the South has literally just been performing that much worse.

And, this is a feedback thread on AH dsl - so comparing results of AH vs WA is also feedback.
Have to agree with you since it appears to be AH support policy to blame the line. Comparing the MTN network with any other proves this is not so and AH have to acknowledge this.

However they continue to blame the ADSL line, Telkom etc on an individual basis rather than admitting from the start that the problem is squarely with their network and within their control.

Their media reps need to be more open and humble about something that affects paying customers negatively.

Customers who state they are leaving are just getting 'waved goodbye', which is a very peculiar reaction.

We've always tried to be as thorough as possible with our troubleshooting, and this does at times mean looking at the line to make sure the line or the Exchange is not the issue.

I think we've tried to be as open as possible about our network, and the current status of the network, at times we could have shared more information, but there have been specific reasons that we have not, and that will become clear why in due time.

If a Client decides to leave Afrihost, we've always had the approach of trying to part ways as amicably as possible, but if the Client has decided, I'm not going to try bribe them to stay as this will only be a temporary solution, and doesn't actually resolve the reason for the Client leaving in the first place.

Will do, things do happen so can understand that, please make sure that there is a Incident Report and mitigations for future issues posted on your website, this will allow me issuing appropriate answers to management.

However I still want to see Capped Accounts in the south performing how they used to be. I do use your capped account privately as well as a capped account in office which i have not been happy with.

I have cancelled my private capped account and waiting to see what happens by the 25th, thereafter I will also move our office account once I find an alternative vendor that is stable.

Some good news at least, Double Data is staying for the foreseeable future, but we'll need to see how quickly we can get the network upgrades in place before I can say when the Capped accounts will improve.

So , should I cancel my cancel ? will it be within the next month ?

I really want to say cancel your cancel, but I cannot guarantee that the upgrades will be done that soon. If you want to err on the side of caution, you can cancel the product, and then always sign-up again when you know things are better.

Hi All,

Alright so I've written the tool to track the latency-spikes. It sends the pings up to my server (literally just the ping value) so that I may generate a few graphs for network wide performance. You're welcome to check the source code HERE if you'd like to make sure :)

https://zertop.com/releases/latencyreport/Releases/LatencyReportV1.0.0.jar

Just leave that running in the background. Unfortunately, I have not yet implemented a real time graph. I'll add that in the future if you all want it. I will post a link to a graph which will show the stats across the entire network in a bit.

Z

Here's the link to those graphs.

I'll fix the x-axis later. It's just for the last hour haha.

Z :)

Looks good Zertop, it will be interesting to see the trend over a Friday evening to see how it holds out or where it starts to go South (Pun Intended). I didn't install it as I have not been using Afrihost for the past two months, waiting for it to improve. But if it provides them with useful feedback I will switch back during non critical hours and run the utility.

Awesome :)

The more the better. Currently there's about 10 people reporting, so hopefully we will still see a trend.

So again, lack of IPC.

Instead of saying sorry, its IPC, we get the runaround and some of us get made out to be idiots.
I received an SMS survey thing today, to rate your service. Gave you a well-deserved 2 out of 10.

So what is going to happen in June 2016????

I promised my parents I would put DECENT internet in for them, and I went through the whole spiel of convincing the two old people that AH won't do what Cybersmart did to them etc... And guess what, AH is doing the same thing, and it takes nearly a week for our voice to get heard and for them to update their status page. Do you guys not monitor your network or what? Oh wait, it was a short week. Bet you're all sitting with your arses in Durban at the resort.

Thanks for making me now look like a ****, Afrihost.

Did they finally admit that?

This was denied by Afrihost in an answer to my question.

I can't really be any clearer on this, our issues aren't the result of IPC capacity, and our planned network upgrades do not include IPC upgrades.

There are major upgrades on the way and these will definitely see performance increase drastically.

Despite it being a short work week, we've been here behind our desks helping out where we can.
